Senior AWS Data Engineer to join their Technology team. This is a hands-on opportunity to take ownership of data pipelines and architecture while working within a collaborative, growth-focused environment.
Salary/Hourly Rate: $145k - $160k
Position Overview: Our client is seeking a Senior AWS Data Engineer with strong hands-on AWS and SQL experience to help build, structure, and continuously improve an enterprise data environment. This person will take ownership of scalable data pipelines, architecture, data modeling, and warehouse quality while partnering closely with analytics, data science, and business teams. This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who is comfortable building solutions from the ground up and taking ownership from design through deployment. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. This position is unable to provide visa sponsorship or relocation assistance.
Responsibilities of the Senior AWS Data Engineer:- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data architecture within AWS.
- Build and manage data models and schemas supporting an enterprise data warehouse.
- Develop reusable data solutions using AWS services including S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, EMR, and Redshift.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries across large datasets.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data jobs, pipelines, and overall platform performance.
- Implement data quality checks, validation, monitoring, and alerting.
- Support dimensional modeling, including star schemas and enterprise warehouse design.
- Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, and business teams on data requirements.
- Improve data lineage, documentation, governance, and reusable engineering practices.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and Agile development.
- Mentor Junior Engineers and collaborate with offshore team members.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior AWS Data Engineer:- 5+ years of professional Data Engineering experience.
- Expert-level SQL skills with experience writing complex queries and optimizing performance.
- Strong hands-on experience within the AWS data ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, and EMR.
- Experience with Redshift and enterprise data warehousing.
- Strong data architecture and data modeling experience.
- Experience building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines from scratch.
- Ability to take ownership of solutions from design through deployment.
- Must be able to work onsite in New York City 4 days per week.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior AWS Data Engineer:- dbt Labs experience.
- Python experience.
- Experience with dimensional modeling and star schemas.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and/or working with offshore teams.
- Experience with data governance, quality, lineage, and observability.
Education Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
