Seeking a detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper / Accounting Associate to manage daily accounting operations and support financial reporting, payroll, compliance, and audit preparation for a nonprofit organization. This position works closely with leadership and the Finance & Operations team to maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper accounting procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
Track and record revenue across multiple funds.
Maintain prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, payroll accounts, and other financial records.
Maintain and update the chart of accounts.
Process payroll for salaried, hourly, seasonal, union employees, and contractors.
Manage timekeeping and verify employee hours.
Calculate and submit union dues, benefit payments, pension, health contributions, and agent fees.
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for leadership and the Board.
Reconcile concession sales, petty cash, inventory, and other accounts.
Prepare workers' compensation reports and assist with audits.
Coordinate with outside CPAs and auditors for annual financial audits.
Prepare audit schedules, documentation, and annual 1099 reporting.
Handle required business licenses and regulatory filings.
Manage insurance policies, renewals, and claims.
Maintain vendor financial records and serve as a financial contact for vendors.
Maintain internal controls and financial procedures.
Track equipment, inventory, and service contracts.
Support payroll-related HR compliance.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting/IRS regulations.
Experience supporting financial audits.
Strong experience with QuickBooks Desktop and Excel.
Payroll experience, including union payroll, preferred.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Details
Full-time position in Ventura, CA.
Primarily office-based accounting and administrative work.
Works closely with executive leadership, finance staff, and outside accounting professionals.
Requires accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and attention to detail.
