You may lead engineering teams on small to mid‑size projects or serve as a team member on larger projects, performing quality control for both design calculations and plan development. You may also prepare designs and ensure the development and delivery of successful structural projects such as bridges, highway interchanges, roadway construction, railroad infrastructure, and public spaces. This role offers involvement in all aspects of transportation structures, including design, analysis, load rating, and rehabilitation/repair. Stantec integrates skills and resources throughout North America, offering opportunities to work on bridge assignments across the country.Your Key ResponsibilitiesPerform on technically challenging projects and act as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team membersIdentify and analyze the principal design features and major design alternatives that satisfy the project's purpose and the client's needsProduce detailed, high‑quality final design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards; may include sealing professional documentsPeer review plans and provide quality control reviews of technical specifications, contract documents, and estimatesMentor junior staff in technical design elements and development of project documentsAssist the Project Manager in managing and monitoring performance of project budgets and schedulesAssist the Bridge Team Lead in managing client relationships and bringing in new clientsWrite proposals and negotiate change orders as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agenciesYour Capabilities and CredentialsAbility to perform structural design through all phases of project document production, including development of design calculations, specifications, and estimatesSolid understanding of and practical experience applying regional, state, and federal transportation agency standards, codes, and procedures, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Manual for Bridge EvaluationProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Mathcad, LEAP software, AASHTOWare BrR, MDX, CSiBridge, SAP2000, and other relevant design software; ability to use MicroStation, AutoCAD, Open Bridge Modeler (OBM), and Open Bridge Designer (OBD) preferredAbility to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and similar materialTechnical proficiency in relevant areas of transportation structure design and understanding of various design methodsStrong written and verbal communication skills with a self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and highly organized approach to delivering professional products for clientsEfficient management of multiple concurrent project assignments and ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness while meeting project budgets and schedulesUnderstanding of client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and invoicingAbility to participate and collaborate in project team settings, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions to othersValid driver's licenseEducation and ExperienceBachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or higher preferredMinimum of 7 years of bridge and/or structural design experiencePE license in CO required or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months; SE licensure and/or registration in multiple states is a plusCDOT, ADOT, NDOT, NMDOT, UDOT, WSDOT, and/or Caltrans experience preferredPrevious Design‑Build project experience or other alternative delivery experience (PDB, CMGC, CMAR, P3) is a plusRail bridge design experience a plus (High‑Speed rail / Commuter rail / Freight rail / Light rail)Seismic design and/or complex bridge design experience is a plusPosition will primarily require work in an office setting; short‑term travel may be required on an occasional basis to perform field investigations or site visits.A career in transportation is more than bridges, roads, and rail.
