Whether you're modernizing aging infrastructure or pioneering next‑generation transportation solutions, your contributions will help define the future of mobility.HDR is hiring a Senior Bridge Engineer for our Structures Group in Tampa, FL.Primary ResponsibilitiesLead the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of bridge and transportation structures, including new construction, rehabilitation, and replacement projects for DOT, municipal, and private clients.Serve as Technical Lead and Engineer of Record on major bridge projects, ensuring designs meet applicable AASHTO, FHWA, state DOT, and local agency standards while maintaining constructability, safety, and cost efficiency.Provide project and people management oversight, including work planning, scope definition, resource allocation, scheduling, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.Mentor, train, and oversee junior and mid‑level engineers, fostering professional growth through technical guidance, QA/QC reviews, and performance feedback.Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables; proactively identify risks and implement solutions to maintain profitability, quality, and on‑time delivery.Collaborate with project managers, business development teams, and leadership to support proposal development, project pursuits, and client interviews, including technical write‑ups and approach strategies.Act as a primary point of contact for clients, agencies, and stakeholders—building trusted relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, and technical credibility.Oversee and participate in structural condition assessments, load ratings, inspections, and rehabilitation recommendations, applying engineering judgment to extend service life and ensure public safety.Conduct and/or review advanced structural analyses using industry‑standard software and tools; guide the development of calculations, plans, specifications, and estimates.Lead and enforce quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) processes, ensuring deliverables meet internal standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory compliance.Support staffing decisions, workload forecasting, and team development efforts in coordination with department leadership.Stay current with evolving design codes, emerging technologies, and best practices in bridge engineering; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the group.Represent the firm at client meetings, public hearings, technical committees, and professional organizations as a senior technical ambassador.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in civil or Structural EngineeringExperience managing junior staffMust be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on the types of projects listed under Primary ResponsibilitiesA minimum of 15 years of bridge design experienceExperience with FDOTExperience working with contractors on design/build or other types of non‑conventional projectsFamiliarity with engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, RM Bridge, spColumn, LUSAS, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridgeRequired QualificationsA minimum of 10 years bridge design experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license.Proven hands‑on experience in all aspects of bridge design projectsFamiliarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bently OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete DesignDemonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teamsStrong communication skills and willing to work in a team environmentMust be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projectsAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a mustEmployment EquityAt HDR, we are committed to the principles of employment equity.
