    Job Description

The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

    Aerospace Senior Facilities Carpenter

    The Journey Starts Here

At Ursa Major, we believe the journey to space begins with the engines. Founded to revolutionize space access, we design and develop cutting-edge rocket engines and propulsion solutions. Our products demand an extraordinary team—innovative, driven, and passionate about shaping the future of aerospace technology.

As Ursa Major continues to grow, we're looking for an Aerospace Senior Facilities Carpenter to support our rapidly expanding manufacturing and test operations. This role is critical to constructing, maintaining, and improving the manufacturing, laboratory, office, and testing environments that enable the production of world-class aerospace propulsion systems.

We’re looking for a highly skilled, hands-on professional who shows up every day with a "challenge accepted" mindset who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and takes pride in quality craftsmanship. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, applicable building codes, and company safety policies. The ideal candidate is adaptable, safety-focused, and enjoys solving complex facility challenges while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results. Extensive experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional carpentry is strongly preferred, including constructing offices, laboratories, manufacturing spaces, cleanrooms, equipment platforms, partitions, equipment foundations, and supporting manufacturing equipment installations. Experience with millwright work, rigging, or industrial equipment.

The Carpenter will construct, modify, and maintain the facilities that support rocket engine manufacturing and testing while partnering with Engineering, Facilities, EHS, and contractors on capital expansion projects.  Candidates with extensive experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional carpentry are strongly encouraged to apply.  As a member of the Facilities team, you'll also support general facility operations, including preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment moves, grounds maintenance, snow removal, event support, and other operational needs, with a willingness to work across trades to help ensure safe, reliable facility operations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Construct, modify, and maintain offices, laboratories, manufacturing spaces, cleanrooms, conference rooms, and support facilities.
    • Install, repair and modify metal stud framing, wood framing, drywall, insulation, suspended ceilings, FRP panels, wall protection systems, and architectural finishes.
    • Install commercial doors, frames, door hardware, windows, storefront systems, overhead doors, and specialty access systems.
    • Design, build and install cabinetry, shelving, workstations, benches, storage systems, and custom facility improvements.
    • Construct equipment platforms, mezzanines, safety barriers, partitions, equipment enclosures, structural support systems, and equipment foundations to support manufacturing and testing operations.
    • Support manufacturing equipment installations and relocations, including equipment anchoring, precision layout, rigging support, structural modifications, and coordination with engineering and specialty contractors.
    • Coordinate and oversee construction contractors, millwork installers, painters, flooring contractors, and specialty trades performing repairs, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
    • Perform day-to-day facilities maintenance across manufacturing, laboratory, office, and outdoor environments, supporting a wide variety of building systems and infrastructure.
    • Maintain accurate CMMS work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and asset documentation.
    • Perform general facilities operations, including grounds maintenance, snow removal, material handling, facility event support, and other operational activities as needed to support business operations.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Experience and Skills:

    • 5–8 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial or industrial carpentry, facility construction, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance.
    • Advanced knowledge of commercial construction methods, metal stud framing, drywall systems, doors and hardware, finish carpentry, and architectural systems.
    • Experience using commercial carpentry equipment, woodworking tools, and construction equipment.
    • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, engineering plans, construction documents, and shop drawings.
    • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting a collaborative team environment.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
    • Experience with rigging, equipment moving, machinery installation, and the safe operation of lifting equipment is highly desirable.

    Preferred Experience and Skills:

    • Experience in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, industrial, pharmaceutical, or laboratory environments.
    • Experience constructing or modifying cleanrooms, manufacturing spaces, or controlled environments.
    • Experience installing commercial doors, frames, hardware, storefront systems, and overhead doors.
    • Experience with acoustical ceilings, FRP systems, architectural specialties, and wall protection systems.
    • Experience with light millwright work, including machinery installation, anchoring, alignment support, and equipment assembly.
    • Experience with rigging, machinery installation, equipment relocation, and the safe operation of lifting equipment.
    • Welding and light fabrication experience.
    • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
    • Forklift, boom lift, and scissor lift certification.
    • Experience using CMMS/work order management software.
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital work order management platforms.

    Additional Information:

    • This is an hourly position reporting to the Facilities Manager.
    • Work environment includes office spaces, manufacturing areas, test facilities, and outdoor operations at multiple worksites.
    • This position requires full-time, on-site presence; remote work is not an option.
