The Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all field operations on heavy civil construction projects throughout New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area.

Description
Project Execution & Field Management
- Direct and oversee all day-to-day field operations.
- Develop and implement project work plans and construction sequencing strategies.
- Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors to meet project schedules and productivity goals.
- Monitor project progress and identify solutions to maintain schedule and budget targets.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
- Conduct daily site inspections and monitor overall project performance.
Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NYC DOB, MTA, DOT, DEP, and other applicable regulations.
- Lead daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and job hazard analyses.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all personnel maintain required certifications and safety training.
Quality Control
- Maintain project quality standards and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, and acceptance procedures.
- Review and resolve field quality issues promptly.
- Ensure all work meets client expectations and regulatory requirements.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop and maintain project schedules.
- Coordinate activities with owners, engineers, inspectors, utility companies, and public agencies.
- Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and daily production planning.
- Provide regular updates regarding schedule, manpower, equipment, and project risks.
Cost Control
- Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material usage.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating cost impacts.
- Review timekeeping, equipment reports, and daily field documentation.
- Support change order development and documentation efforts.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production logs, and project records.
- Document project progress with photographs and field reports.
- Track deliveries, inspections, permits, and subcontractor performance.
- Communicate project status, challenges, and resolutions to management.

Profile
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 8-10 years of heavy civil construction experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Superintendent or Foreman leadership role.
- Experience managing projects in urban environments, preferably within New York City.
- Strong knowledge of excavation, underground utilities, concrete, roadway, site development, and infrastructure construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- NYC SST Supervisor Card.
- Experience with public agencies including NYC DOT, DEP, MTA, Port Authority, NYSDOT, and Con Edison.
- Knowledge of union workforce management.
- Experience with CPM schedules, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
