Your impact

Reporting to the Civil Group Lead, the Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, design, and production of civil engineering deliverables for Federal site development projects. This position serves as a technical leader and Designer of Record (DOR), ensuring the completeness, quality, and timely execution of project work while maintaining budget and schedule commitments.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise in site development, grading and drainage, utility design, stormwater management, and civil infrastructure design. This position requires a highly motivated engineer who can independently execute complex assignments, mentor junior staff, and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Projects primarily support U.S. Department of Defense and Federal Civilian agencies, including USACE, NAVFAC, NASA, FAA, GSA, OBO, Defense Contractors, and Intelligence Community clients.

This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Design & Production

  • Lead civil site development design from concept through construction.
  • Develop civil engineering plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Perform site layout, utility, roadway, grading, drainage, and pavement design.
  • Complete hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, including stormwater detention and water quality design.
  • Design storm drainage systems, detention ponds, erosion and sediment control measures, and utility infrastructure.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, technical studies, and project specifications.
  • Research and apply applicable municipal, state, federal, and project-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.

Project Leadership

  • Serve as Designer of Record (DOR) and seal construction documents as required.
  • Manage discipline budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Perform quality control reviews and ensure compliance with company and client standards.
  • Present technical solutions and findings to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Execute complex and non-routine assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Construction Administration
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Review contractor submittals and shop drawings.
  • Support change order evaluations and construction-phase services.
  • Conduct field investigations and site observations as required.
  • Coordinate with survey teams and oversee topographic and utility surveying efforts when necessary.

Team Development

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers.
  • Provide ongoing technical guidance and quality reviews.
  • Support staff growth through training and project coaching.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing within the civil engineering team.

Here's what you'll need

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of civil site development design experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and site design.
  • Strong understanding of municipal codes, permitting requirements, and industry design standards.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications and construction documents.
  • Experience supporting construction administration activities, including RFIs and submittals.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and lead design efforts.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
  • Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), and other Federal design criteria.
  • Design-Build project experience.
  • BIA certification.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience supporting resilience, flood protection, pump station, or water resources projects.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is a hands-on civil engineer who remains actively engaged in project design while serving as a technical leader and mentor. They are comfortable managing multiple assignments, solving complex engineering challenges, and delivering high-quality site development solutions for Federal clients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Approximately 70% of the role involves technical design and Civil 3D production, with the remaining effort focused on project leadership, quality control, client coordination, and staff development.

The base salary range for this position is $102,900.00 to $180,100.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
