While this position is based in Texas, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our local and national teams to expand our ports and maritime practice.     Job Responsibilities

    We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer who is looking to:

    • Lead a range of heavy civil projects from port utility and roadway infrastructure to stormwater management design, always looking for better ways to serve our clients and grow your skills and portfolio.
    • Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects and find non-standard design solutions.
    • Bring outstanding creative, technical, and interpersonal skills to lead teams through challenging designs and schedules, taking pride in a job well done and the people you mentor along the way.
    • Discover and implement innovative solutions for projects and processes, collaborating with experienced designers and an in-house construction team that works on the front lines every day.
    • Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders, translating complex concepts and inspiring enthusiasm for the important work we deliver to our communities.
    • Bring lessons learned to help clients understand that the schedule and budget impact design decisions, trusting that your honest input is valued and important to our mutual success.

    • When necessary, collaborate with managers, marketing staff, and other Burns & McDonnell Global Practices to identify and analyze business development opportunities that are strategically aligned with company objectives.
    • When possible, identify target clients for Burns & McDonnell and cultivate effective relationships with existing and potential key clients, customers, and contractors to develop business.
    • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
    • Participate in the development of project fees, schedules, scopes, budgets, staff planning, and construction planning.
    • Responsible for the effective management of change orders.
    • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
    • Participate in construction administration, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of materials.
    • Lead field inspections, installations, or analyses for public and private clients. Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
    • Comply with company and site safety policies.
    • Participate in necessary regional trade associations and professional organizations.
    • Assist in managing project and program resources and sub-consultants.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in civil or related engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
    • 7 years of civil engineering experience or masters degree in civil engineering and 6 years of civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
    • General business and financial calculation knowledge.
    • Knowledge of civil engineering design guides.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Microsoft Office tools, and Microsoft Project.
    • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, and presentation skills.
    • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills, e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM, Revit, Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with leading the design discipline for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
    • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
    • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
    • Ability to travel.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
