Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is seeking a technically driven Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join our infrastructure group. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who is passionate about civil and water/wastewater infrastructure design and is interested in progressing in technical and project management leadership. You'll play a key role on multidisciplinary teams delivering complex municipal and utility projects throughout New England/East Coast and across the U.S.

The infrastructure team supports clients with innovative, practical solutions for water and wastewater treatment, conveyance systems, stormwater management, and site infrastructure. This is a great opportunity to deepen your technical expertise while gaining exposure to project delivery, coordination, and client-facing work.

Essential Functions:

• Work with multidisciplinary teams in the design and implementation of PFAS treatment (GAC, IX, RO) and conventional water/wastewater process systems.
• Participate in large-scale design-build and design-bid-build projects for municipal water, wastewater, and reclaimed water facilities.
• Work on project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables, ensuring alignment with client objectives.
• Collaborate directly with public agencies and utilities to guide decision-making and facilitate project progress.
• Prepare and deliver engineering reports, design packages, technical memoranda, and construction documentation.
• Provide business development support, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and interview participation.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying new opportunities for growth within the municipal market.
• Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering technical development and professional advancement.
• Support recruitment and team growth by identifying and developing emerging talent.
• Ensure all project work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and 8+ years of progressive municipal infrastructure project experience.
• Proven experience managing water, wastewater, and/or drainage projects with municipal, state, and water district clients.
• Prepare construction documents, including drawings, technical specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Work as a task lead on water/wastewater projects, mentoring junior staff.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to ensure design quality and technical accuracy.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction phases.
• Assist with site visits, field investigations, and occasional construction observation.
• Work closely with CAD designers, junior engineers, and other technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients on project scoping and work with multidisciplinary teams on delivery.
• Work with senior engineers on business development, help develop and present at conferences, and stay active with associations.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel (~15%) to project sites and client meetings

Compensation is based on work location, individual experience, and job qualification. Range: $128,000 to $150,000

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer and performing design tasks.
• Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and engineering software.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret detailed engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Ability to stand, walk, and navigate active project or construction sites during field visits.
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry light materials (up to 25 pounds) such as field equipment or documents.
• Visual acuity to review technical data, drawings, and digital models.
• Ability to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork activities as needed.
• Hybrid or fully remote environment with field/client visits.
• Work performed primarily in a professional office setting with standard engineering tools and software.
• Periodic site visits to construction sites, treatment facilities, or outdoor environments.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions during fieldwork.
• Potential exposure to construction-related conditions, including noise, dust, and uneven terrain.
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required during site visits.
