This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) ready to step into a leadership-focused role managing and delivering municipal infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead a small team and manage projects through all phases, including planning, environmental review, design coordination, bidding, and construction support.In this role, you will: Lead impactful infrastructure projects from concept to construction, serve in a municipal owner role, delivering public infrastructure projects, enjoy a stable public sector role with long-term career growth, focus on high-quality project delivery with an emphasis on long-term community value, take the next step into a leadership role with increasing responsibility and project complexity.Key Responsibilities Project Management: Plan, manage, and deliver Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects from concept through construction.Design Oversight & QA/QC: Review engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance throughout all project phases.Consultant Coordination: Procure and manage consultants; coordinate with regulatory and permitting agencies.Staff Supervision: Provide guidance, training, and oversight to assigned engineering staff.Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and present to public forums including City Council.Technical Documentation: Prepare and review reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation.Minimum Qualifications – Required A combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and four years of professional Civil Engineering experience, including some experience in a lead or project management capacity.License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license.Certificate: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California is required at the time of appointment.About the Department The Engineering Design Division of Ventura's Public Works Department manages the planning, design, and delivery of the City's Council-approved 5-year Capital Improvement Program.
