Monthly Salary Range: $11,374 $15,534

The County of Monterey Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department is composed of four Divisions, including Development Services, Planning Services, Permit Center, and Administration. The department provides reasonable and safe development, planning for future needs of the County, and helps protect natural resources.
The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for managing the engineering services section of the Housing and Community Development Department. The engineering services section provides engineering and review services for discretionary and ministerial permit approvals such as major and minor subdivisions, improvement plans, subdivision improvement agreements and processing of final and parcel maps in accordance with the Subdivision Map Act, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and local ordinances. The review and/or issuance of building, encroachment, transportation, sewer connection, housing address permits and traffic impact reports is a significant element of the unit. The Senior Civil Engineer reports to the Chief of Building and oversees and manages a team of professional and technical staff directly and through subordinate supervisors.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished civil engineer who possesses exceptional project management and communication skills. The Senior Civil Engineer will have experience processing and managing complex land use development projects, proven supervisory experience with strong customer focus and experience coordinating with local, state and, federal agencies, including review of traffic impact reports related to development applications. Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:
Education:
Equivalent to completion of a Bachelors degree in civil engineering at an accredited college or university
AND
Experience:
Four years of professional and supervisory public works engineering experience with at least two years at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer at Monterey County.
