Summary

SUMMARY: Collaborates with the Director, nursing leadership, and staff across departments to assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate, and revise educational programming for nursing and non-nursing personnel as indicated or requested. Under the direction of the Director, this role provides day-to-day supervisory support, mentorship, onboarding assistance, operational coordination, and guidance to Clinical Educators and support staff within the department. The incumbent serves as a senior resource for departmental educational operations, assists with coordination of projects and workflow activities, and supports consistency in educational practices and regulatory readiness initiatives across the system. This position works collaboratively with departmental leadership to support staff development, complete performance evaluations for assigned direct reports, provide operational feedback and coaching, and facilitate departmental priorities. Final authority for disciplinary action, budgeting, staffing decisions, and strategic direction remains with the Director.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

  1. Assesses, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation, ongoing competency, and professional development needs of Nursing Department leadership and staff, with specific focus for assigned departments, units, and clinics, supporting the AHS model of professional nursing practice.

  2. Under the direction of the Director, provides day-to-day supervisory support, mentorship, guidance, evaluation input, and operational coordination to Clinical Educators and departmental support staff, including assigned direct reports.

  3. Completes performance evaluations for assigned direct reports in collaboration with the Director and provides ongoing coaching, mentorship, guidance, and professional development support.

  4. Assists the Director with onboarding, orientation, training, and ongoing support of newly hired Clinical Educators and support staff.

  5. Collaborates with the Director to support departmental workflow coordination, assignments, operational priorities, and project implementation.

  6. Provides coaching, mentorship, guidance, and constructive feedback to Clinical Educators and support staff and escalates concerns, trends, and recommendations to the Director as appropriate.

  7. Assists the Director in monitoring project progression, operational coverage, departmental deliverables, and staff support needs.

  8. Serves as a senior clinical education resource and lead facilitator for departmental educational initiatives, onboarding activities, and system-wide projects.

  9. Facilitates communication and collaboration among Clinical Educators and support staff to support consistency in educational delivery, departmental operations, and standardized processes.

  10. Supports implementation of departmental goals, educational priorities, and operational expectations established by departmental leadership.

  11. Collects and assesses data and information related to education needs and other pertinent situations, including identification of trends, issues, and supporting data to determine comprehensive educational programming for assigned departments, units, and clinics, including classroom, clinical experiences, and learning technologies.

  12. Consults and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and community partners for program planning, implementation, and evaluation to meet staff development and patient care needs.

  13. Develops, coordinates, and facilitates educational programs as directed, including Grand Rounds, in-services, continuing education, specialty curricula, orientation, and competency programs.

  14. Develops curricula reflective of evidence-based practice and utilizes appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate various learning styles and learning environments.

  15. Evaluates outcomes of educational programs and utilizes findings for continuous improvement; incorporates objective assessment of classroom and clinical performance into evidence-based evaluation frameworks.

  16. Fosters achievement of Nursing Professional Development goals and departmental objectives.

  17. Identifies factors that affect staff's ability to fulfill job responsibilities and collaborates with leadership to facilitate appropriate systems improvements and operational changes.

  18. Integrates relevant research outcomes into nursing professional development practice through effective learning activities and evidence-based educational strategies.

  19. Participates in continuing education provider unit activities as a Nurse Planner; utilizes Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory criteria to assess needs, plan, implement, and evaluate continuing nursing education activities.

  20. Participates in quality improvement, regulatory readiness, and performance improvement activities.

  21. Leads and participates in strategic planning initiatives, ad hoc projects, and educational activities as assigned for the department; communicates effectively with colleagues across AHS to advance departmental and organizational goals.

  22. Plans educational programming for new or changing programs of care and assists in development and revision of clinical policies, procedures, and workflows as requested.

  23. Plans, develops, and evaluates preceptor and onboarding programs to enhance orientation processes and staff retention; serves as a role model through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.

  24. Promotes and cultivates positive relationships with academic programs to foster collaborative partnerships and maintain a positive image of AHS.

  25. Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development, onboarding, mentorship, and educational support opportunities.

  26. Responsible for reporting and supporting compliance with licensing, certification, accreditation, and other regulatory educational requirements.

  27. Serves as a facilitator and mentor to nurse residents and actively supports their professional growth, transition to practice, and clinical development.

  28. Supports integration of research into practice and assists with development of staff members' professional practice and clinical competence.

  29. Participates in educator interviews, onboarding support, peer mentorship, staff evaluations, and professional development initiatives in collaboration with the Director.

  30. Serves as a role model for professionalism, accountability, communication, teamwork, leadership behaviors, and evidence-based educational practice.

  31. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Required Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Preferred Education: Master's degree in nursing, Business, Public Health and/or Public Policy.

Required Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of Experience providing mentorship, onboarding support, operational coordination, project leadership, or guidance to Clinical Educators or staff.

Required Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of relevant nursing experience in an acute care setting.

Required Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience with orientation, staff development, clinical education, or nursing professional development.

Required Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in education program design, evaluation, and adult learning principles.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) & Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Pay Range $64.84 - $108.06

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
