Job Title: Senior Construction Materials Technician

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a national traveling technician team, performing field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. You will support large, high-profile projects across Northwest Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, working a rotating schedule of three weeks on and one week off with a consistent 60-hour workweek. The position is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on fieldwork, extensive travel, and contributing directly to the quality and safety of critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field tests, observations, and inspections of construction materials, including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel, in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
• Perform construction materials testing such as concrete testing and inspection, soil testing, Proctor and compaction testing, soil sampling, and nuclear density gauge testing to verify compliance with specifications.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and other stakeholders regarding construction site activities, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection results.
• Transport material samples, along with all required documentation, to the laboratory for further testing and analysis in a timely and organized manner.
• Compile, prepare, and submit accurate written and digital reports that document daily test results, observations, and findings for transmittal to the project manager.
• Maintain, clean, and properly operate testing equipment, nuclear gauges, vehicles, and work areas to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and efficient.
• Assist with scheduling and dispatching technicians to project sites as needed, helping to coordinate resources and ensure adequate coverage for active projects.
• Follow and enforce strict safety standards and protocols at all times, including proper handling of nuclear density gauges and other specialized equipment.
• Support quality assurance and quality control activities by identifying nonconformances, documenting issues, and communicating them promptly to the appropriate parties.
• Adhere to all agency, client, and internal procedures, including completing required forms and documentation prior to beginning work on assigned sites.

Essential Skills

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and other stakeholders.
• Proven attention to detail with the ability to accurately document, report, and interpret field and laboratory findings.
• Ability to maintain, operate, and troubleshoot construction materials testing equipment, including nuclear density gauges and other field testing instruments.
• Experience performing construction materials testing, including concrete testing and inspection, soil testing, Proctor testing, compaction testing, soil sampling, and related quality control and quality assurance activities.
• Knowledge of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel, and their associated testing methods.
• Commitment to safety and strict adherence to safety protocols, particularly when working with nuclear gauges and on active construction sites.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable violation history, and the ability to travel extensively and operate company vehicles safely.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain ACI certification within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to successfully complete related internal safety certifications as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience in construction materials testing (CMT) or a related field, including concrete testing, concrete inspection, asphalt testing, and soil testing.
• Familiarity with ACI standards and practices, including handling and testing of concrete cylinders.
• Exposure to NICET-related practices in construction materials testing, quality assurance, and inspection.
• Experience using nuclear gauges and nuclear density gauges for in-place density and moisture testing of soils and aggregates.
• Background in quality control and quality assurance on construction projects, including documentation and reporting of test results.
• Comfort working on large, high-profile infrastructure projects, including transportation and paving operations.
• Ability to work a rotating schedule of extended hours and travel, including three weeks on and one week off, with consistent 60-hour workweeks.

Work Environment

This position requires 100% travel as part of a national traveling technician team, with assignments on large, high-profile construction sites across Northwest Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. The work schedule follows a rotating pattern of three weeks on and one week off, with an expectation of approximately 60 hours per week during on-weeks. The first assignment will be on a site in Fort Smith, Arkansas, supporting Department of Transportation and paving operations for a United States Air Force facility. Work is primarily performed outdoors on active construction sites, often in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment. You will use a range of field testing equipment, including nuclear density gauges and other construction materials testing instruments, and will operate and maintain vehicles and tools regularly. Candidates must complete required agency forms prior to starting work on the site and are expected to follow all site-specific and client-specific safety and operational procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.
