This is not a conventional paralegal role. Our clients are small to mid‑sized businesses, operating companies, financial institutions, real estate developers, healthcare entities, and executives who face high‑stakes disputes that threaten their operations, assets, and reputations. The matters you will support span commercial litigation, business torts, breach of contract, trade secret and non‑compete enforcement, fiduciary disputes, real estate litigation, employment disputes, and creditor's rights, among others. In this role, you manage all assigned attorney support functions from intake through verdict or resolution. You own the integrity of your casework, the reliability of your deadlines, and the readiness of your attorneys, serving as the operational backbone of your assigned litigation team.What You'll Do Vet new clients, perform intakes, open matters, conduct initial conflict checks, and execute seamless handoffs to attorneys with full case context preparedSupport complex commercial and business litigation matters including breach of contract, business torts, trade secret disputes, non‑compete enforcement, real estate litigation, fiduciary claims, and creditor's rights proceedingsDevelop case strategy by conducting thorough legal research, drafting legal memoranda and correspondence, and obtaining key information from relevant parties, witnesses, and third‑party sourcesDraft, review, and manage a high volume of litigation documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, proposed orders, and settlement agreementsManage discovery from end to end—coordinating document collection, organization, and production; supporting E‑Discovery workflows; and maintaining defensible chain‑of‑custody documentationNavigate state and federal civil court systems, manage electronic filings, and ensure full compliance with court rules, local administrative orders, and applicable deadlinesCoordinate and manage all court deadlines, scheduling orders, deposition calendars, and attorney appointments across multiple simultaneous mattersPrepare attorneys for hearings, depositions, trials, mediations, and arbitrations—assembling exhibits, witness files, binders, and all supporting materials with precision and thoroughnessServe as a reliable point of contact for clients and opposing counsel, communicating professionally and managing expectations with poiseSupport non‑billable team functions including workflow management, purchase orders, shared calendars, and shared inboxesTake on special projects as assigned, approaching each with the same ownership mindset you bring to your daily caseworkWhat You Bring Experience & Knowledge:Minimum of 5 years' experience as a paralegal, with direct exposure to complex commercial or business litigationDemonstrated ability to support attorneys across the full litigation lifecycle—from intake and discovery through trial preparation and post‑judgment proceedingsHands‑on experience with legal research, document review and management, motion drafting, deposition coordination, and E‑DiscoveryFamiliarity with business litigation matters such as breach of contract, trade secrets, business torts, real estate disputes, or creditor's rights is strongly preferred; Family Law experience also consideredProficiency across the full litigation technology stack: Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Litify, NetDocuments, EverLaw, LexisNexis, eFax, CSC Prepare, and state and federal filing systemsHow You Work:You are a highly organized, self‑directed professional who manages time and competing priorities with efficiency and composureYou are motivated by deadlines and shifting priorities, and you maintain high output even when the pace changes quickly or the work becomes repetitive for stretchesYou think objectively; separating emotion from analysis to make clear‑headed decisions, even in high‑pressure situationsYou communicate with confidence and persuasion, adapting between high‑level concepts and granular specifics depending on the audience and needYou hold a client‑service orientation and proactively identify opportunities to contribute to business developmentYou embrace process ownership and bring a mindset geared toward growth—this is an ideal role for someone who wants to build something, not just maintain itYou are behaviorally flexible; capable of stretching beyond your comfort zone when the work calls for it, and sustaining that stretch without burning outWhy Join Jimerson Birr?
