Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Communications Specialist to lead the planning, development, and execution of strategic communications programs supporting a global Regulatory Affairs (RA) organization.
This role will partner closely with business leaders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop clear, engaging, and effective communications that advance organizational priorities, strengthen employee understanding, and support strategic business initiatives. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and strategic communicator who is comfortable working in a complex, global, matrixed environment and supporting senior executives and leadership teams.
The successful candidate will bring a combination of strategic communications expertise and hands-on execution skills, with experience developing integrated communication plans, executive messaging, employee communications, presentations, newsletters, all-staff meeting materials, and communications supporting complex business and technology initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, development, and execution of communication strategies and programs for the Regulatory Affairs organization, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and broader business objectives.
- Partner with business leaders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop communications that support Regulatory Affairs initiatives, organizational priorities, culture goals, and strategic business objectives.
- Develop and implement integrated communication plans for multiple audiences, incorporating stakeholder analysis, audience needs, message development, timing, channel selection, sequencing, and effectiveness tracking.
- Draft, edit, coordinate, and distribute high-quality employee communications, including all-employee emails, newsletters, leadership updates, organizational announcements, and other enterprise-wide communications.
- Maintain the Regulatory Affairs communications calendar, ensuring communications are well-coordinated, appropriately timed, and effectively sequenced across audiences and channels.
- Provide executive communications support to the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and the Regulatory Affairs leadership team.
- Develop executive and leadership communications materials, including presentations, talking points, scripts, videos, strategic messaging, all-staff meeting materials, awards communications, and other leadership-facing content.
- Translate complex business, organizational, technical, and strategic information into clear, concise, and engaging communications tailored to different audiences.
- Support the employee advisory group by developing agendas, coordinating meetings, facilitating discussions, documenting key themes, and preparing communication outputs for leadership and employees.
- Build and optimize communication programs that improve employee understanding, engagement, and adoption of organizational priorities, initiatives, and changes.
- Collaborate with internal partners and cross-functional teams to ensure communications are consistent, coordinated, and aligned with broader organizational objectives.
- Support communications for complex business initiatives, organizational priorities, transformation efforts, and programs that may include technology components.
- Assess communication needs and identify opportunities to strengthen employee awareness, understanding, and engagement.
- Measure and evaluate communication effectiveness using available feedback, employee insights, engagement indicators, and other relevant data.
- Incorporate feedback and insights to continuously improve messaging, communication channels, timing, and overall communication strategy.
- Support the planning, development, and delivery of key communication forums, leadership meetings, employee events, and other programs designed to promote understanding of Regulatory Affairs priorities and best practices.
- Coordinate multiple communication projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, quality, consistency, and alignment with business objectives.
- Stay current on emerging communication trends, technologies, tools, and best practices, identifying opportunities to enhance communication effectiveness and employee engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Integrated Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
- 5–7 years of professional communications or related experience, preferably within a large, complex, global, or highly matrixed organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to create clear, compelling, accurate, and audience-appropriate content.
- Strong experience developing and implementing communication strategies and integrated communication plans.
- Experience creating employee and organizational communications, including emails, newsletters, presentations, leadership updates, meeting materials, and enterprise-wide messaging.
- Demonstrated experience supporting senior leaders and executives with strategic communications materials such as presentations, talking points, scripts, leadership messaging, and organizational communications.
- Experience developing communications strategies for highly complex business initiatives and technology-enabled programs.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand organizational priorities, anticipate business and team needs, and translate complex information into effective communications.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence multi-divisional, multi-functional, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience working within a complex, matrixed organization.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a global environment with strong awareness of cultural nuances and diverse audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, collaboration, and influencing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, deadlines, audiences, and communication channels simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to communication quality and accuracy.
- Supervisory or leadership experience managing people, programs, or multiple complex projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project planning and project management experience, including successful implementation of business initiatives with technology components.
- Experience supporting communications within Regulatory Affairs, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, healthcare, life sciences, or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience supporting a global function, enterprise organization, or senior leadership team.
- Experience with executive communications, employee engagement, organizational communications, or change communications.
- Experience planning and supporting all-staff meetings, town halls, leadership forums, employee advisory groups, or similar communication events.
- Experience measuring communication effectiveness and using feedback or insights to improve communication strategies.
- Familiarity with emerging communication technologies, digital communication channels, and evolving employee communication best practices.
