Axillon Aerospace (Baltimore), Inc. is searching for a Senior Composite Design Engineer to join our team, who will be responsible for leading the design and development of various composite products, primarily radomes for airborne applications. They will be responsible for material selection, structural design, coordinating tooling design, coordinating process development, and coordinating environmental testing. They will work closely with electrical and manufacturing engineers to support various programs.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Design Designs or directs design for composite structures to meet customer specificationsServes as lead engineer on development programs to ensure that engineering tasks are assigned, schedules are met, and work is completed within budgetSupports other team members in the various phases of the design effortGenerates statements of work, coordinates with vendors, and reviews results for structural analysis, subcontracted tooling, and environmental testing effortsInterfaces with customers to answer questions, make presentations, provide product application data, and support program managersProposals and Business Development Assists Business Development by providing technical expertise on sales calls to customersAssists Business Development in developing proposals and making cost estimates for design and development opportunitiesPrepares proposals including developing design concepts and writing technical approach sections for management and customersOperations Support Provides engineering support to operations for root cause and corrective action activitiesParticipates in Material Review Board (MRB) and dispositions discrepant materialQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Minimum Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; four (4) year college or university program certificate or equivalentMinimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Design Engineer in a composites focused role; a graduate degree specializing in Materials Engineering or a similar field may be substituted for years of experienceExperience with structural analysis and finite element modelingExperience with mechanical and environmental testing for flight qualificationPreferred Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering with Composites Courses or a Master's Degree in EngineeringTen (10) years of experience as a Design Engineer in the Aerospace or Defense industry developing composite structuresExperience with various types of composite structures used in radomesExperience preparing proposals, including the technical portions, and cost estimationExperience with CAD (Solidworks or CATIA preferred)PHYSICAL DEMANDS Position involves sitting, standing and/or walkingPosition requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objectsThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; ear protection occasionally requiredWork usually performed in air-conditioned office and factory environmentTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
