Controls Engineer - Space Systems
Compensation: $140,000-$170,000 (base salary, depending on experience)
We're partnered with a next-generation space technology company developing cutting-edge launch and satellite propulsion systems. This team is shaping the future of automated testing and production for space hardware and is looking for a Controls Engineer to join their growing organization.
This role will design and implement control systems that power automated test and production equipment-scripting control sequences, developing real-time software, and integrating complex electromechanical systems. You'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver robust, safety-compliant solutions that keep operations efficient and scalable.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who's hands-on, detail-oriented, and thrives at the intersection of software, hardware, and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain control systems for factory and test infrastructure, including sensors, actuators, and safety interlocks.
- Develop Python-based control software for real-time loops, data acquisition, and hardware communication (Modbus, CAN, TCP/IP).
- Support system bring-up, debugging, and refinement in lab and production environments.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and test engineers to align on requirements and integration.
- Create clear documentation, operator manuals, and test procedures for scalability.
- Ensure all systems meet industrial safety and reliability standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing and deploying real-world control systems in test or production environments.
- Proficiency in Python for automation and control.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, EtherCAT, RS-485).
- Experience with PLCs, industrial PCs, or embedded control systems.
- Comfortable working around high-voltage, high-pressure, or high-speed equipment.
- Strong documentation and troubleshooting skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or advanced manufacturing.
- Background with NI hardware/software, SCADA systems, or real-time data logging.
- Knowledge of industrial safety system design (OSHA, NFPA 79, ISO 13849).
- Familiarity with Linux-based workflows and version control systems (Git).
