This role leads the design and integration of complex systems that combine hydraulic, electrical, and embedded controls. Based in San Antonio, you will play a key role in establishing and scaling a new North American engineering center, collaborating closely with global teams to drive product innovation and engineering excellence.Key Responsibilities Controls System Leadership Lead development of integrated control strategies for boom and scissor lift platformsDefine end-to-end control architectures, including: Sensors, actuators, and controllersCAN networks and communication protocolsFunctional logic and safety systemsDesign and validate control algorithms for: Proportional valves, motor drives, pumpsLoad sensing, stabilization systems, operator interfacesEnsure seamless interaction between hydraulics, electrical hardware, and embedded softwareSystem Integration (Hydraulic + Electrical) Develop system models, schematics, signal maps, and control diagramsDefine control strategies for: Flow, pressure, and valve logicDynamic response and machine stabilityPartner with software teams on: Sensor selection and network architectureConnector design and communication protocolsEnsure systems meet performance, safety, efficiency, and regulatory requirementsTechnical Execution & Compliance Ensure compliance with ANSI, CSA, CE, ISO, and relevant electrical/hydraulic standardsLead DFMEA, functional safety reviews, and network robustness assessmentsDevelop control specifications, validation plans, and technical documentationDrive root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and system performance improvementsPrototype & Validation Support prototype builds, system commissioning, and functional bring-upExecute validation testing, including: Functional and duty-cycle testingCommunication robustness and fault handlingHydraulic response and stability verificationTune control parameters and calibrate sensors across full operating conditionsCross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with software, structures, powertrain, vehicle integration, and test teamsSupport product development programs from concept through validationPartner with: Current Product Engineering on field issuesManufacturing Engineering on production readiness and serviceabilityTechnical Leadership & Development Serve as the SME for electro-hydraulic control systemsMentor engineers in controls, diagnostics, and system safety designEstablish best practices in: Design standards and simulation modelsDiagnostic strategies and continuous improvementRequired Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering7+ years experience in control systems for AWP or mobile/off‑highway equipmentStrong expertise in electro-hydraulic systems and proportional controlElectrical systems (sensors, CANbus, wiring, controllers, batteries)Experience with global standards (ANSI, CSA, CE, ISO)Hands‑on experience with prototyping, commissioning, and validationProficiency with modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Automation Studio)Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skillsKnowledge of DFM/DFA and manufacturing processesPreferred Qualifications Experience with NX and TeamcenterProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseCore Competencies Systems‑level thinking and engineering judgmentStrong cross‑functional leadership and communicationAbility to lead technical reviews and integration effortsContinuous improvement mindsetWork Environment Combination of office, lab, and manufacturing environments.
