Job Location: El Paso, TX (On Site)

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm. Flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.
FLSA status: Exempt

Salary: $46,550 Annually.

Position Summary
The Division of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) seeks an innovative, student-centered, and highly motivated professional to serve as the Lead Coordinator for the Miguel A. Loya Scholar Program within the Office of Student Scholar Support. This position provides leadership for the day-to-day administration and continued growth of the Miguel A. Loya Scholar Program, including scholar recruitment, selection, retention, program development, event coordination, and ongoing student support. The Lead Coordinator will also collaborate in supporting UTEPs broader portfolio of scholar programs as needed.
This multifaceted role requires a dynamic professional with exceptional organizational, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills, as well as a strong commitment to student success. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, effective record-keeping practices, the ability to mentor and support high-achieving students, and a passion for creating transformative educational experiences that foster scholar development and achievement.
Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
Scholar Onboarding, Retention, and Student Support - 35%
Responsible for the onboarding and ongoing support for the Loya Scholar cohorts including new student orientation, coordinating academic advising, on-campus housing assignments, support of academic coaching to ensure a successful student transition and persistence to degree.
Manages the planning and execution of Scholar events, including but not limited to scholar orientation, move-in events, annual banquet, and spring Scholar Reception. These events may be in-person, virtual, hybrid, or a combination.
Scholar Engagement, Experiential Learning, and Student Leadership - 25%
Identifies opportunities for Scholars both on and off campus to engage in high-impact experiences that align with students' academic and professional needs and aspirations in Engineering including study abroad, leadership development, student organizations, on-campus employment and internships.
Program Administration, Records, Reporting, and Compliance - 20%
Maintains accurate records for Scholars for the purposes of updating key stakeholders and required reporting including academic progress, financial aid awards, campus accolades, anticipated graduation dates, study abroad experiences, internships, on-campus employment.
Mentors Scholars through regular one-on-one and group meetings and effectively connect Scholars with resources to support their academic, personal, and professional needs.
Loya Scholars Student Organization and Campus Collaboration - 15%
Serves as staff advisor to the Loya Scholars Student Organization (LSSO) and holds developmental meetings regularly with the executive officer team.
Attends, coordinates and/or facilitates Loya Scholar programs, activities, events and meetings and creates a culture of support amongst the Loya Scholars.
Supports all Scholar programs and events in the Student Scholar Support office as requested.
Professional Responsibilities, Institutional Service, and Technology/Compliance - 5%
Ability to work with a diverse student population.
Handles sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner.
Serves as the Student Scholar Support Liaison on various campus committees.
Some travel may be required.
Possesses the ability to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
and
Experience: Two years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency with standard office software applications.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team and work effectively with high school and college-age students.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree from four-year college or university.
Bilingual (English and Spanish).
Experience working in a higher education environment, directly interacting with students on a variety of needs and issues.
Knowledge of engineering academic programs and career pathways, with the ability to guide and support students in exploring educational and professional opportunities in the field.
