Position Summary

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for overseeing cost accounting activities within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and plant‑level financial reporting. The Senior Cost Accountant partners closely with operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to ensure accurate cost data, support decision‑making, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze standard costs, including bills of material, routings, labor, and overhead
  • Prepare and analyze manufacturing cost variances (material, labor, overhead, PPV, usage, absorption)
  • Perform inventory valuation, reconciliation, and reserves analysis
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close, including cost‑related journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare plant P&L reporting and budget‑to‑actual analysis
  • Partner with operations and plant leadership to explain cost drivers and performance trends
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes for manufacturing costs
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing support for inventory, cost accounting, and manufacturing controls
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost visibility, reporting accuracy, and system processes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5-8+ years of experience in manufacturing cost accounting
  • Strong knowledge of standard costing and variance analysis
  • Experience with inventory accounting in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and business‑partnering skills
