A global manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to support cost accounting, inventory, financial reporting and operational analysis across a multi-site manufacturing environment.

This position combines hands-on manufacturing accounting with broader financial analysis and business partnership. The role will maintain and analyze standard costs, inventory valuation, manufacturing variances and cost of goods sold while also supporting budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and profitability analysis.

The Senior Cost Accountant will work closely with Finance leadership and partner directly with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering and Sales to understand plant performance, explain changes in cost and margin, and improve the financial information used to manage the business.

The organization is continuing to expand internationally and is investing in stronger costing, reporting and ERP processes to support that growth. This position is 100% onsite in Willoughby, OH.

Job Details

The Senior Cost Accountant will support the manufacturing finance function with responsibility for product costing, inventory accounting, month-end close and operational analysis.

This role requires someone who understands how manufacturing activity flows through the financial statements and can work directly with plant and operational teams to explain changes in cost, inventory, margin and production performance.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintain and update standard product costs across manufactured products
• Review bills of material, routings, labor standards and manufacturing overhead allocations
• Support standard cost updates and cost roll activity
• Analyze material price and usage variances
• Analyze labor rate and labor efficiency variances
• Analyze manufacturing overhead, absorption and spending variances
• Investigate significant manufacturing variances and communicate findings to Finance and Operations
• Maintain inventory accounting and valuation
• Reconcile inventory subledger activity to the general ledger
• Prepare inventory, cost of goods sold and manufacturing-related journal entries
• Complete month-end account reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Support accounting for excess, obsolete and slow-moving inventory reserves
• Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle count processes
• Research inventory discrepancies and support resolution with Operations and Supply Chain
• Review manufacturing transactions for appropriate costing and accounting treatment
• Analyze product costs, gross margin and product-line profitability
• Support customer and sales profitability analysis
• Analyze changes in material, labor, overhead and other manufacturing cost drivers
• Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting activities
• Prepare financial and operational reporting for Finance and business leadership
• Develop and maintain manufacturing and financial KPIs
• Analyze production efficiency, labor utilization, scrap, throughput and machine utilization
• Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to understand production and purchasing trends
• Partner with Engineering on BOM, routing and product-cost changes
• Support Sales and Finance with pricing, margin and customer profitability analysis
• Improve costing procedures, reporting processes and internal controls
• Support enhancements to ERP reporting and manufacturing finance workflows
• Assist with special projects and additional financial analysis as business needs evolve

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 3-5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
• At least 2 years of hands-on manufacturing cost accounting experience
• Strong standard costing experience required
• Strong inventory accounting and reconciliation experience
• Working knowledge of BOMs, routings, labor standards and manufacturing overhead
• Hands-on month-end close experience including journal entries and account reconciliations
• Experience with inventory valuation and cost of goods sold
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience working directly with manufacturing or plant operations
• Budgeting, forecasting or management reporting experience preferred
• ERP experience required; Infor CSI / SyteLine experience is a plus
• Power BI and SQL exposure is a plus
• CPA, CMA or MBA preferred but not required
