About the job

Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians. With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

As part of the global controls team, you will work with motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, project management, and maintaining the building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS). Using Google leadership principles, you will develop new processes and standards while innovating in the controls space.

Google Data centers have multiple components such as generators, UPS, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc. These components have local control systems that interact with each other via open or proprietary communications protocols. The BMS is the primary method of control of all mechanical systems within a data center. The EPMS is the primary method of monitoring all electrical systems within a data center.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $144,000-$209,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for BMS and EPMS issues in Google data centers, providing immediate technical support, resolving quarterly maintenance actions, and supporting life-cycle operations.
  • Develop comprehensive project scopes, budgets, and schedules for BMS/EPMS improvements, overseeing the entire life-cycle from design through commissioning to ensure seamless integration and high-level operational excellence.
  • Review quarterly maintenance results and conduct site visits to supervise vendor performance, ensuring strict compliance with design standards, local codes, and resolving corrective actions for in-service facilities.
  • Manage stakeholder deliverables and train internal customers while leading procurement, including RFQs, vendor proposal reviews, and financial management of service contracts and purchase order issuance.
  • Coordinate project meetings, report status, and navigate complex requirements, requiring up to 30% site and lab travel to provide essential technical assistance and critical operational support throughout facilities.
