Job Description:
Data Engineer
Location: Fully Remote $75-$85 an hour
Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer to support ongoing data infrastructure and pipeline development within a high-impact engineering program. This role will focus on building and optimizing scalable ETL pipelines, supporting cloud-based data architecture, and enabling analytics and reporting across cross-functional teams.
This position is critical to maintaining and enhancing existing data systems, while also supporting new development efforts and knowledge transfer from the current resource.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes across multiple data sources
- Develop and optimize data workflows using Python and SQL
- Work within a cloud-first environment leveraging AWS services (S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, CloudWatch, IAM)
- Support infrastructure provisioning and automation using AWS CDK (Infrastructure as Code)
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across existing data pipelines, warehousing, and transformation layers
- Partner with business stakeholders, BI teams, and engineers to define and deliver data requirements
- Build reliable, maintainable, and extensible data solutions aligned with long-term architecture goals
- Improve performance, scalability, and efficiency of data systems and processes
- Document processes and support knowledge transfer during transition
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in Data Engineering (level flexible based on candidate)
- Strong experience with:
- SQL (advanced proficiency)
- Python (or similar language)
- ETL pipeline development and data modeling
- Hands-on experience with AWS data ecosystem (S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, etc.)
- Experience working with large, complex data sets and distributed systems
- Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with:
- AWS CDK / Infrastructure as Code (strong plus for this role)
- Workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Step Functions, etc.)
- Big data technologies (Spark, EMR, Hadoop)
- Experience supporting data transformation and analytics environments
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
