Position OverviewThe State of Arizona is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support the Arizona Department of Education's data environment. The role will manage and support SQL Server databases, Azure database virtual machines, database backup/recovery, disaster recovery, performance tuning, replication, migrations, security, Power BI, ETL, and database automation.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with SQL Server administration, Azure, PowerShell, Power BI, T-SQL, stored procedures, SSIS, DevOps, and database performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and maintain SQL Server databases, including installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Manage Azure database virtual machines and related database infrastructure.
- Perform database backup, recovery, disaster recovery, replication, and high availability activities.
- Manage SQL Server Always On configurations and clustering.
- Perform database performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and code reviews.
- Design and develop stored procedures, functions, triggers, and complex T-SQL queries.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for database administration and automation.
- Configure and support Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh schedules.
- Design and implement ETL processes and maintain SSIS packages.
- Implement database migrations, changes, purge/archive procedures, and production database updates.
- Implement version control and DevOps practices for database objects.
- Apply appropriate database security guidelines and mechanisms.
- Review existing database architecture and recommend improvements.
- Troubleshoot database connectivity, application queries, indexes, and operational issues.
- Develop and maintain database administration tools, utilities, procedures, standards, and documentation.
- Collaborate with application development and BI teams to support data-driven solutions.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior developers and other database administrators.
