Senior Dental Assistant - Orlando Health Cancer Institute

Position Summary A Brief Overview Performs routine work involving a variety of tasks in assisting the professional dental staff: Responsibilities What you will do Circulates during oral and maxillofacial operations or restorative procedures and hands instruments and supplies to surgeons as needed. Assists in changing intra-oral and extra-oral dressings. Sets up sterile instrument trays for operations and ensures that standard trays are ready for emergencies. Sterilizes and gives routine care to clinical instruments, linens and auxiliary supplies, including spray valves, compressed air apparatus, syringes, fountain cuspidors and suction equipment. Maintains a functional inventory of supplies. Performs dental x-rays and maxillofacial radiology including in office CT scans. Responsible for processing copies of imaging for referring physicians and other outside providers of the care team. Performs duties according to established clinic rules and regulations based upon standards of the dental profession. Document services provided. Serves as clinical lead in the practice. Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process for clinical team, Acts as preceptor in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership. Supports and helps develop quality strategies within the practice. Education consultant for the practice and OHMG specialties, trains clinical team on Surgical procedures, sterile technique, and autoclave process. In collaboration with nursing staff helps maintain surgical code cart maintenance. Maintains supply and monitors safe storage of medical gases according to proper protocols. Patient education facilitator pre- and post-surgery. Attends multi-disciplinary care conferences and communicates regularly with multi-disciplinary team to coordinate and update on plan of care. Enters orders as needed for appropriate follow-up with providers. Enters treatment plans as needed to ensure appropriate coding to generate quotes for services and necessary authorization for procedure approvals. Assists in the dental lab as needed. Coordinates patient care with scheduling team. Establish and maintain positive relationship with referring dental providers, point of contact for regular patient updates on surgical planning status. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and have the ability to assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients on his or her assigned department and/or unit. Monitors vital signs as needed. Qualifications Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a CODA-accredited dental assisting program, provided that it included appropriate training in the expanded function -OR- Successful completion of a Florida Board-approved expanded duties training program. Five (5) years Dental Assistant (with Expanded Functions) experience in a Maxillofacial Surgery office. Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification. If assigned to OHPG - Craniofacial Specialty, must maintain current State of Florida Dental Radiographer license.

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a CODA-accredited dental assisting program, provided that it included appropriate training in the expanded function -OR- Successful completion of a Florida Board-approved expanded duties training program.
