The Role: Senior Structural Engineer - Aircraft Modifications & Special Missions
Location: Wichita, Kansas

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to support complex aircraft modification programs, including Special Missions and aftermarket initiatives. This role is highly hands-on, working directly with manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional engineering teams to resolve build issues, drive MRB activity, and deliver structural design solutions.

You'll play a key role in supporting flight test programs, authoring engineering dispositions, and leading structural integration efforts across high-visibility aerospace projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate design and build issues, developing effective structural and installation solutions
  • Author temporary and permanent engineering dispositions to support production timelines
  • Disposition aircraft non-conformances (MRB), including rework and repair instructions
  • Conduct detailed aircraft and drawing investigations, coordinating across engineering, QA, and manufacturing teams
  • Support and design Flight Test Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
  • Author structural special instructions, limitations, and restrictions as needed
  • Design and release structural and systems installations for Special Missions programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and execution
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams where applicable
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of aerospace industry experience
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR compliant)
  • Proven experience supporting aircraft manufacturing and modification programs
  • Experience with Special Missions or aftermarket modification programs
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
  • Advanced proficiency in CATIA V5 (20,000+ hours strongly preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5 workbenches:
    • Assembly Design
    • Part Design (Boolean Operations)
    • Aerospace Sheetmetal
    • Tubing Design
    • Kinematics
    • Electrical Harness Routing
  • Experience with Siemens NX
  • Experience with Teamcenter PLM
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems and manufacturing processes
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
