Senior Developer

Location: within 50 miles of  Jersey City 3 days on site mandatory in a week

Pay Range: $70-$75/Hr.

Applicants must be able to work directly for Artech on W2 from Day 1

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, highly capable Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale advanced Visual Studio Code extensions that support complex developer workflows.

This is not a junior role. We are looking for an independent, senior-level technical leader who can operate autonomously, influence technical direction, and deliver high-impact tooling used by broad developer communities. If you have a passion for developer experience (DevX) and thrive on solving complex IDE challenges, we want you on our team.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and Build: Design, develop, and maintain advanced, production-grade VSCode extensions from the ground up.

• Influence Technical Direction: Act as a core technical leader, making high-level architectural decisions and setting enterprise development standards.

• Optimize Developer Experience: Solve complex DevX challenges and build productivity workflows directly within the IDE environment.

• Integrate Deeply: Build extensions that interface seamlessly with custom source control systems and virtual file systems.

• Scale and Perform: Navigate VSCode architecture and internals to ensure extensions are highly performant, scalable, and maintainable.

• Own the Lifecycle: Manage the entire extension lifecycle, including publishing, versioning, and maintaining extensions at scale.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience: 8–10+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering production-grade developer tools or IDE extensions.

• IDE Expertise: Deep, hands-on expertise in VSCode Extension development, including a solid understanding of VSCode architecture, extension APIs, and workspace management.

• Language Proficiency: Strong programming proficiency in Python, Node.js, and C#.

• Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to navigate complex IDE ecosystems and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks.

• Systems Integration: Practical experience integrating IDE tools with source control mechanisms and virtual file systems.
