The Senior Director of Facilities Maintenance is responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and direction for the maintenance, operations, and physical upkeep of the university''s campus. This role ensures that all facilities and infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards to support the university's academic, administrative, and residential needs. The Senior Director oversees a multidisciplinary team and fosters a safe, sustainable, and functional campus environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive facilities management plan that aligns with the university's mission and strategic objectives.
  • Establish priorities and goals for maintenance, repairs, and improvements across campus facilities.
  • Promote sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives across operations.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and manage operational and capital budgets.

Operational Oversight:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the following areas:

  • Maintenance & Mechanical Engineering Shop

  • Electricians, Plumbers & HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)

  • Grounds and Landscaping

  • Custodial Services

  • Painters, Flooring & Roofing

  • Operations Administrative Support

  • Ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of maintenance, repair, and renovation services.

  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs to maximize the lifespan of campus infrastructure and systems.

  • Manage emergency response protocols for facilities-related incidents and ensure the campus remains safe and operational during emergencies.

Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor a diverse team of skilled trades professionals, operational staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development and skills enhancement for staff members.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor regulations, university policies, and safety standards.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop, manage, and monitor budgets for facilities operations, including labor, materials, and contracted services.
  • Analyze and report on resource utilization and efficiency to senior leadership.
  • Seek opportunities for cost savings while maintaining service quality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in facilities operations, including leadership roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex operations.
  • Experience with budget development, cost control, and resource allocation.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facility Management Professional (FMP), or similar credentials.
  • Experience in facilities management within a university or institutional setting.

  • Proficiency in facilities management software and systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in an office environment but may require occasional on-site inspections of construction sites. The Senior Director must be able to navigate active construction zones and adhere to safety protocols. This position will require some travel between campuses (Omaha and Phoenix)
