Summary

  • The Senior Director of Infection Prevention for the strategic, operational, human resource, quality and financial management and oversight of the Infection Prevention across Jackson Health System, including inpatient, ambulatory services, nursing homes and corrections health.
  • This includes making strategic decisions to: align the defined service with the needs and resource supports of the targeted patient population; meet professional and regulatory standards/benchmarks for infection control quality; achieve infection prevention and employee health fiscal goals; and maintain staff performance at targeted levels.
  • The incumbent translates system and pavilion strategic plans and policies into an Infection Prevention Plan suitable to the unique operational needs of Jackson Health System.
  • The incumbent leads implementation and evaluation of the Infection Prevention plan and provides reports relevant to achievement of strategic goals. The incumbent has authority to make decisions for the Infection Prevention and represent the system on interdisciplinary teams and interactions with other professionals and departments in making policy decisions and in creating conditions conducive to meeting system goals.
  • The incumbent is responsible for creating and maintaining an environment that cultivates exemplary patient care. The incumbents works in partnership with nursing leadership, Physician partners, and other key stakeholders to define and clarify the strategic direction and operational plan for the infection prevention and employee health department.
  • As a member of the quality leadership team, this incumbent establishes a setting that supports professional practice and empowers staff to provide safe, effective, patient centered, timely and efficient care in collaboration with all health care disciplines.
  • The incumbent facilitates continuous quality improvement through the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of departmental plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. The incumbent ensures compliance with standards established by professional organizations, national, state, and local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • The incumbent is accountable for practice that upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior. The incumbent mentors others, role models professionalism, and participation in activities such as nursing organizations, nursing research, the community, and bodies that shape health care policies and practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assures the Infection Prevention and Employee Health plans are consistent with district and pavilion plans and support attainment of district and pavilion goals.
  • Acts on legislation, national policies, and guidance and assess their impact.
  • Acts as advocate for patients, staff, and families by directing the implementation of effective plans, policies, procedures, mission, and vision within the Infection Prevention Program.
  • Monitors and audits progress and revises plan as needed.
  • Provides regular written reports to document status.
  • Participates in strategic planning and special projects for the system, hospital, or nursing service, as assigned.
  • Attend Board meetings to report on infection prevention and control issues and to ensure infection prevention and control consideration in other operational developmental decisions of the Board.
  • Ensures internal staff and patient involvement in infection prevention and control.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings and rounds to maintain visibility and open communication within the Infection Prevention and Employee Health department.
  • Fosters relationships and communication with managers and staff that enables problem identification and resolution.
  • Develops the Infection Prevention and Employee Health team to achieve effective management and outcomes.
  • Fosters a proactive vs. reactive approach to problem identification and resolution.
  • Addresses problem resolution at the root cause using a collaborative approach.
  • Uses current literature and resources to identify best practices and evidence-based interventions.
  • Establishes priorities and allocates resources based on current situation and needs.
  • Makes appropriate and timely decisions considering patient safety and organizational needs.
  • Delegates tasks to encourage growth and development of staff considering patient safety and organizational needs.
  • Serves as a change agent, assisting staff in understanding the importance, necessity, impact, and process of change.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare workers and departments to promote continuity of services.
  • Maintains and supports governance structure, as defined by nursing service, in which staff members are actively involved with committee work, decision-making, and policy development.
  • Actively participates on committees and task forces to meet organizational and infection prevention and employee health goals.
  • Makes recommendations regarding construction, renovation, environmental rounds, and assures compliance with national and/or professional standards.
  • Promotes and practices patient/family advocacy.
  • Maintains accountability for patient safety and quality of care for the department.
  • Effectively plans, prepares, and monitors the annual budget for the Infection Prevention and Employee Health departments to achieve effective financial performance.
  • Effectively plans, prepares, and monitors salary, personnel allocation and overtime/supplemental staff usage for the Infection Prevention and Employee Health department.
  • Assures the use of staffing tools and guidelines necessary to provide quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Uses data, patient care standards, and other relevant information to explain variations in operational expenses.
  • Effectively plans, allocates, and monitors acquisition of supplies, services, and capital resources.
  • Effectively plans for the maintenance and replacement of essential equipment.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for the infection prevention and employee health department and organization.
  • Oversees implementation and evaluation of clinical advancement program for nursing personnel within the Infection Prevention and Employee Health Department.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention planning activities at the district and hospital level.
  • Maintains active involvement in recruitment and hiring to assure adequate staffing.
  • Promotes staff retention.
  • Collaboratively establishes realistic, measurable, developmental goals with each member of the Infection Prevention and Employee Health team.
  • Provides regular performance feedback based on individual goals and objectives.
  • Conducts objective employee evaluations as defined by the organization.
  • Ensures personnel management consistent with state and federal laws and organizational policy and procedure.
  • Utilizes progressive disciplinary action process to address staff performance and behavior issues in a timely manner.
  • Reports practice and conduct issues to regulatory agencies and organizational entities as indicated.
  • Promotes professional development of managers and staff.
  • Ensures that an adequate orientation program designed to meet specific patient needs and staff experience is in place within the Infection Control department.
  • Ensures that education programs and activities designed to meet specific patient and staff needs is in place within the Infection Prevention and Employee Health departments.
  • Proactively plans for succession.
  • Participates in the organizational and nursing service quality improvement plan.
  • Attend Quality Review/Governance Committees regularly.
  • Develops and coordinates a robust performance and quality improvement plan for infection prevention and control and employee health that complements the organizational plan.
  • Ensures effective surveillance systems are in place with timely feedback to clinical services.
  • Regularly monitors and utilizes quality improvement data to assess current state and identify areas needing improvement.

  • Participates in activities such as nursing organizations, the community, and bodies that shape health care policies and practices.
  • Facilitates the utilization, conduct, and dissemination of research.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to deliver patient/customer services that meet or exceed patient expectations.
  • Reviews patient satisfaction data (scores, trends, key drivers, patient/customer comments) on an ongoing basis.
  • Develops, participates in and revises patient satisfaction/customer service performance improvement plans.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience. Management experience is required.

Education

Bachelor''s degree in related field is required. Master''s degree is strongly preferred.

Credentials

Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
