Compensation: $212,000 – $254,000 annually

Position Overview

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an accomplished Senior Director, Long-Range Research Initiative & Applied Science Strategies to join its executive leadership team in Washington, DC. This role is designed for a scientific leader passionate about advancing high-impact research initiatives, influencing science-based policy, and shaping long-term strategies related to chemical safety, regulatory science, and applied research.

The successful candidate will collaborate with senior leadership, scientific experts, government agencies, and international organizations to guide research priorities, evaluate emerging scientific trends, and promote evidence-based decision-making on a national and global scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee long-range strategic research efforts, evaluate emerging scientific trends, and develop innovative approaches supporting regulatory policy, public health, and scientific advancement.
• Partner with senior leadership, scientific experts, government bodies, and international organizations to direct research priorities.
• Translate complex scientific concepts, data, and risk assessments into clear, actionable strategies for executive leadership, policymakers, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Lead multidisciplinary scientific teams and guide multinational research collaborations to drive global scientific alignment.

Required Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree in a scientific or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience within the chemical industry, a related scientific field, or government research.
• Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and interpreting complex scientific data related to chemical safety, toxicology, environmental health, or regulatory policy.
• Experience collaborating with international research organizations or participating in multinational scientific initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of major scientific research programs, chemical assessment processes, and regulatory science.
• Excellent leadership, strategic planning, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proven ability to communicate complex scientific findings to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and policymakers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced education or specialized training in toxicology, environmental science, public health, or a closely related discipline.
• Extensive experience working with international scientific organizations and collaborative global research initiatives.
• Strong understanding of chemical safety regulations, scientific compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience applying quantitative and qualitative risk assessment methodologies to policy development.
• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary scientific teams and long-range research strategies.
