Overall Function

The Senior Director, Marketing Technology Strategy will be responsible for the strategic direction and operational leadership of the integrated applications, data flows and governance frameworks supporting our Membership and Marketing fundraising and advocacy goals. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role serves as the primary lead for our MarTech modernization initiative, overseeing the implementation of an integrated hub-and-spoke technology ecosystem while building the organizational infrastructure, processes, and cross-functional alignment needed to sustain and scale MarTech capabilities over the long term

The Senior Director will lead and coordinate cross-functional teams across IT, Marketing, and Membership focused on journey orchestration, personalization and digital experience across web properties, online fundraising, email marketing and advocacy platforms. The Senior Director will support data readiness for complex analytics and reporting across platforms and be responsible for driving innovation in the fast-moving MarTech field, continuing to advance digital transformation at EDF.

A central responsibility of this role is operationalizing EDF's MarTech governance model. The Senior Director will oversee the MarTech Governance Committee and the intake and triage process that moves initiatives from ideation through prioritization and project launch. And the role will ensure that decision frameworks and accountability structures remain embedded in day-to-day practice and evolve as the organization grows in maturity and capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the modernization of MarTech systems with an eye to reducing technical debt and ensuring product maturity
  • Manage a high-performing team of 3-5 application architects, developers and a business analyst
  • Own the technology stack enabling the Membership and Marketing and Communications teams to achieve their fundraising, recruitment and advocacy goals
  • Own EDF's website platforms and application architecture, partnering with Marketing and Communications on roadmap and lifecycle management
  • Participate in advancing EDF organizational effectiveness and culture goals, so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values
  • Lead active cross-functional collaboration among IT, Marketing and Membership leadership and teams to manage the MarTech roadmap, drive alignment, resolve competing priorities and advance shared MarTech goals
  • Oversee the MarTech intake and triage process and the operational workflow with ongoing input from the MarTech Governance Committee and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Oversee the MarTech Governance Committee, ensuring governance frameworks remain current, actionable and aligned with organizational priorities in line with the MOCHA decision making frameworks and Committee charter
  • Define and enforce quality assurance standards and protocols, including the creation of test plans and acceptance criteria to ensure system reliability, performance and availability across platforms
  • Set direction and expectations for DevOps and software delivery practices, including effective governance of GitHub pull requests and issue management, in support of scalable, secure and resilient digital systems
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards across initiatives including architecture, configurations and operations to ensure applications are well-supported and cross-team knowledge sharing is facilitated
  • Oversee the lifecycle of BI- and AI-ready data products and analytics capabilities, from requirements and prioritization through ongoing maintenance, adoption and modernization, in partnership with IT colleagues and business stakeholders
  • Identify and advance AI and machine learning‑driven opportunities for automation and efficiency, helping teams scale their work while maintaining quality, oversight and trust in outputs
  • Participate in the IT Change Control board to vet and approve deployments in conjunction with change management programs
  • Ensure that MarTech applications support governance and compliance efforts across the enterprise, in concert with foundational data management practices
  • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field with at least 12 years of technology and application development, engineering or relevant experience. A Master's degree or equivalent may substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience
  • 7+ years of effectively leading, developing and guiding a technical team
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and operationalizing organizational governance frameworks, including decision rights models such as RACI or MOCHA, committee structures and accountability frameworks in complex, cross-functional environments
  • Ability to influence executive stakeholders driving enterprise alignment across competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience with application and API development and significant expertise in SQL and database management
  • Experience with digital platforms including Content Management Systems, Email Marketing and e-Commerce, with a strong preference for online fundraising and advocacy
