Job Summary

Salt Lake Community College believes that people are at the center of our work and the communities we serve. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of People & Workplace Culture (PWC), the Senior Director of PWC provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership in support of divisional and institutional priorities.

This position functions as a senior operational leader and strategic partner to the AVP, helping coordinate division-wide initiatives, operational priorities, communications, strategic implementation efforts, and cross-functional collaboration activities across People & Workplace Culture. The Senior Director serves as a key advisor and implementation partner responsible for helping ensure alignment, accountability, operational consistency, and execution of divisional priorities.

The Senior Director oversees employee services/front desk operations, HRIS and systems coordination, onboarding and operational support functions, and division-wide operational initiatives. This position also assists in strengthening communication practices, operational effectiveness, organizational coordination, project management, service delivery, and process improvement efforts across the division.

The Senior Director partners with PWC leadership, institutional leadership, faculty, staff shared governance groups, and campus stakeholders to support operational excellence, workforce modernization, employee experience initiatives, strategic planning implementation, and organizational effectiveness efforts that advance the College's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership, Strategic Coordination, & Operational Oversight

  • Serves as the senior operational leader supporting coordination and implementation of division-wide PWC priorities and initiatives.
  • Functions as a strategic implementation partner and strategic advisor to the AVP in support of divisional operations, communication, accountability, and execution of strategic priorities.
  • Provides operational leadership and oversight for employee services/front desk operations, HRIS coordination, onboarding support functions, and assigned workforce operational areas.
  • Assists the AVP with operational planning, leadership coordination, issue escalation, implementation follow-through, and divisional alignment efforts.
  • Supports operational consistency, organizational coordination, and workforce support practices across the division.
  • Assists in identifying operational risks, service gaps, workflow concerns, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Represents the AVP and/or division in meetings, committees, workgroups, and institutional initiatives as assigned.
  • Supports implementation of divisional purpose, goals, strategic priorities, and operational initiatives aligned with institutional objectives.

Collaboration, Communication, Executive Support, & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Serves as a primary operational liaison and strategic coordination partner for campus stakeholders working with the AVP and PWC division.
  • Coordinates division-wide communications, operational updates, leadership messaging, presentations, reports, and implementation-related materials.
  • Assists in coordinating and monitoring divisional priorities, timelines, action items, and implementation activities.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration across PWC functions and institutional partners to improve alignment and operational effectiveness.
  • Supports development of communication strategies and operational coordination efforts designed to improve transparency, responsiveness, and collaboration.
  • Assists in strengthening divisional accountability, follow-through, and organizational coordination practices.
  • Participates in institutional committees, workgroups, and collaborative initiatives as assigned.

Strategic Initiatives, Process Improvement, SOP Development, & Operational Excellence

  • Leads and supports operational improvement initiatives, strategic projects, workflow redesign efforts, and implementation planning activities across the division.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and maintaining standardized operating procedures (SOPs), operational practices, and service delivery standards.
  • Supports executive-level meetings, strategic initiatives, leadership projects, and cross-functional operational efforts.
  • Supports divisional efforts focused on operational consistency, accountability, responsiveness, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Coordinates operational projects, implementation timelines, and divisional follow-through efforts related to strategic priorities.
  • Assists with process mapping, workflow coordination, operational documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supports organizational change efforts, implementation planning, and operational transition activities.
  • Partners with PWC leaders to identify opportunities to streamline operations, improve service delivery, and strengthen workforce support processes.

HRIS, Workforce Systems, Reporting, & Workflow Coordination

  • Oversees operational coordination and optimization efforts related to HRIS systems, workforce systems, operational workflows, and service processes.
  • Partners with institutional stakeholders to improve workforce reporting, workflow efficiency, workforce data coordination, and systems utilization.
  • Supports implementation, optimization, and operational coordination of HR technology tools, workflow systems, automation efforts, and workforce operational technologies.
  • Assists with workforce reporting, operational dashboards, metrics tracking, and divisional reporting needs.
  • Supports operational coordination between systems, workflows, and workforce operations to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Assists in identifying opportunities to modernize operations through technology, automation, AI tools, and workflow improvements.

Employee Services, Onboarding Operations, & Service Delivery Support

  • Oversees employee services/front desk operations and supports efforts to improve responsiveness, service delivery, and workforce support experiences.
  • Supports onboarding coordination, intake operations, and workforce support processes across assigned operational areas.
  • Assists in strengthening communication, transparency, and service-oriented practices throughout PWC operations.
  • Partners with PWC leaders and campus stakeholders to support a collaborative, solutions-focused employee service model.
  • Supports initiatives designed to improve employee experience, operational responsiveness, and workforce support services.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in operations, workforce administration, organizational coordination, HR operations, or related administrative functions.
  • Strong operational leadership, project management, organizational effectiveness, and implementation coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support executive leadership through operational coordination, strategic implementation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience leading operational improvement initiatives, workflow redesign, process standardization, or organizational coordination efforts.

  • Experience utilizing HRIS systems, reporting tools, operational technologies, and workforce systems.
  • Knowledge of higher education operations and workforce practices preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and communicate to people from different backgrounds to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Higher Education, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Nine (9) or more years of progressively responsible leadership and/or management experience in operations, human resources, workforce administration, organizational coordination, or related administrative functions.
  • Experience leading operational initiatives, organizational improvement efforts, strategic projects, or cross-functional implementation efforts.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and coordinating complex operational activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Higher Education, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Experience in higher education, public sector, or complex organizational environments.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, workforce operations, workflow improvement, analytics, or operational technologies.
  • Experience leading operational modernization, organizational change, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting executive leadership, strategic implementation, or division-wide operational coordination efforts.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PMP, Lean, Six Sigma, Prosci, or related professional certification preferred.
