OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

Teradyne is seeking a Strategy and M&A leader to establish and lead disciplined thinking and execution across strategic planning, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions for our Semi and Product businesses.

This is a senior individual contributor role with regular exposure to Teradyne's executive team. The function is being built out, and this person will help shape how the work gets done rather than inherit a settled process. The role is offered at Director or Senior Director depending on depth of transaction experience and demonstrated ability to form and defend an independent strategic point of view. The role requires periodic domestic and international travel, primarily in Asia. The function is increasingly onsite, and this role is expected to work from the office approximately four days per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning

• Make a substantive contribution to the enterprise strategy refresh, helping frame the questions worth asking, driving the underlying analysis, and bringing a clear recommendation rather than a summary of inputs.
• Partner with the business units and Finance to build and maintain the market fact base.
• Develop an independent competitive point of view on primary and emerging competitors.
• Work with business unit leads to develop and pressure-test growth strategy.
• Synthesize business unit strategies into a coherent enterprise view. Partner with Finance and the business units to build the economic case behind strategic choices.
• Maintain a continuous read on technology, ecosystem, and competitive inflections, and bring implications forward proactively rather than on a planning cycle.
• Support the planning operating cadence (milestones, workstream inputs, executive decision gates) and produce executive and board materials.

Corporate Development

• Create the inorganic strategy and deal funnel.
• Proactively cultivate targets and industry relationships.
• Translate deal rationale into execution priorities and integration dependencies, and identify the risks to value creation that integration planning must address (e.g., roadmap continuity, customer commitments, supply chain exposure, operating model disruption).
• Own the strategic and commercial content of assigned transactions, from investment thesis and valuation inputs through negotiation support to agreed terms.

Executive Communication and Transparency

• Prepare concise, executive-ready updates on strategy and transaction rationale that clearly communicate findings, risks, and required decisions.
• Ensure key assumptions, decisions, and rationales are documented to improve transparency and institutional memory.

Continuous Learning

• Leverage modern M&A platforms, analytics, and AI-enabled tools across all aspects of strategy and corporate development.
• Systematically build domain expertise in the markets and technologies that the Teradyne Semi and Product Test business group targets.
• Establish thought leadership (internal and external) in select domains.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of experience in strategic planning and corporate development. Direct experience with enterprise-wide strategic plans or complex M&A transactions.
• Experience in technology, semiconductor, or engineering-driven environments.
• Prior top tier management consulting or investment banking experience is required.
• Demonstrated ability to drive execution in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with senior stakeholders. Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor with regular engagement with executive leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Bias toward structure, documentation, disciplined follow-through, and transparency.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related technical discipline, and a master's degree (MBA or technical master's).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Direct experience in semiconductor or semiconductor capital equipment markets.
• Experience establishing a strategic planning or corporate development process where none previously existed.
• Exposure to divestitures as well as acquisitions.
