Role Summary The Senior Drafting Technician will support project teams by utilizing 2‑D and 3‑D software to create technical drawings, gather specifications, calculate material and equipment requirements, and set up production methods. The position also coordinates with fabrication teams to produce products in support of JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.Key Role Responsibilities – Core Follow specifications and contract documents to create technical drawings.Produce rough sketches and detailed designs using 2‑D and 3‑D modeling software and review them with the engineering team.Use 2‑D and 3‑D software to calculate, compile, and sort data for business needs, including dimensions, weight limits, and material requirements.Coordinate drawings to meet city and government requirements.Prepare, review, and redraft designs with the shop and project team.Identify and communicate potential design issues, redesigning products to improve functionality.Coordinate with architects and engineers to gather product and structural requirements and incorporate them into designs.Communicate with the project team or design professionals to obtain all necessary details to design and draw components or assemblies.Create diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow and assembly process.Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.Create manuals describing existing product operation, features, and maintenance.Foster teamwork and collaboration through effective communication and conflict resolution skills.Work collaboratively and cross‑functionally to obtain information or solve problems in support of team goals.Adapt positively to change and support corporate and departmental change initiatives.Manage time and track project hours for billing purposes.Follow direction from the internal design manager, drafting manager, or engineer to complete projects.Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Core Collaborate with external architects and engineers, incorporating knowledge into drawings.Evaluate and modify drawings to enhance efficiencies and improve prefabrication shop processes.Manage design schedule to meet multiple deadlines across projects.Lead design review meetings with the fabrication team.Provide on‑the‑job guidance and share subject matter expertise to support team members' learning and development.Identify issues with contract documents and provide solutions for evaluation by owner, architect, and project team.Research and evaluate new drafting and modeling software to improve efficiencies.Describe production methods step‑by‑step, including equipment and software types to be used.Take measurements on a construction site, as needed, to incorporate into fabrication drawings.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Perform work accurately and completely, in a timely manner.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources.Identify common construction materials and shop equipment.Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD.Convert a 2‑D CAD file into a CNC program.Proficiency in parametric modeling software such as Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, or SolidWorks.Math‑based skills and ability to convert between units.Layout skills.Read and understand plans, drawings, and specifications.Assess and optimize project productivity.Build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.Education High School Diploma or GED (Required)Associate's degree in design, drafting, architecture or related field (Preferred)Vocational or Technical training (Preferred)Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.Experience 5+ years design or related experience (Required)2+ years experience drawing components for construction projects (Required)Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.Maintenance facility environment; may be exposed to varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise, and exhaust fumes.Must be able to work on site as needed.May require working overtime as needed.Must have reliable transportation.Frequent activity: Sitting, viewing computer screen.Occasional activity: Standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.Benefits Information The benefits package aligned to this position is Professional Non‑Union.Equal Opportunity & Accessibility Statement JE Dunn Construction is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
