Freight Management, Inc. (FMI) is a family-owned, veteran-operated logistics company based in Itasca, IL with more than 40 years of experience in transportation and a deep specialization in ocean container drayage.
We’re looking for an experienced drayage / intermodal sales professional who understands the container shipping industry and wants to sell drayage with a company that actually knows how to execute it.
This Isn't Just Another Brokerage Drayage Desk
At many large brokerages, drayage is an afterthought — sometimes a small department, or even a single person responsible for handling an entire drayage operation.
That isn't FMI.
Drayage is one of our core businesses. We have the carrier relationships, operational expertise, market knowledge, technology, and infrastructure to support serious drayage customers.
You bring the relationships and sales ability. We provide the platform and operational support to help you win and retain the business.
We also own Draydex®, our proprietary drayage technology platform designed specifically around container transportation, rate management, and market intelligence.
This role is focused on building and growing a book of drayage business — not selling everything to everyone.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop new business with importers, exporters, BCOs, freight forwarders, NVOCCs, and other companies moving international freight
- Identify companies moving containers through U.S. ports, rail ramps, and inland markets
- Develop relationships with decision-makers responsible for transportation and logistics
- Sell FMI's drayage brokerage and container transportation solutions
- Build and grow a profitable book of drayage accounts
- Leverage your existing industry relationships while continually developing new opportunities
- Work closely with our experienced drayage operations team to ensure customers receive excellent service
- Expand customer relationships as their container volume and transportation needs grow

Qualifications
- 2+ years of drayage, intermodal, container transportation, or related logistics sales experience
- A strong understanding of the import/export and ocean container ecosystem
- Experience selling to BCOs, freight forwarders, NVOCCs, importers, or exporters
- Proven ability to prospect, develop relationships, and close new business
- Existing industry relationships are a strong plus
- Someone who understands that successful drayage sales requires more than simply finding a truck — it requires understanding ports, terminals, rail ramps, chassis, free time, appointments, container availability, and the realities of moving international freight
