Senior EHS Specialist/ EHS Professional III

Overview:

The EHS Professional III serves as a senior environmental, health, and safety professional and advanced technical resource for assigned facilities, programs, and operational teams. This role applies broad EHS, emergency preparedness, and crisis management knowledge to independently manage complex assignments, evaluate regulatory and operational risk, analyze performance trends, and support effective program execution. The EHS Professional III partners with site leadership, managers, supervisors, and employees to improve EHS performance, strengthen compliance, reduce operational risk, and support continuous improvement objectives through technical expertise, coaching, consultation, and professional influence. The role supports facility compliance and risk reduction under the direction of the Site EHS Manager while contributing to the successful execution and improvement of site EHS programs.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a senior technical resource and visible champion for continual improvement in environmental, health, safety, emergency preparedness, and crisis management performance.
• Independently assess complex EHS conditions, regulatory requirements, operational risks, and program effectiveness; recommend appropriate actions, controls, and improvement opportunities.
• Lead or support incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and root cause analysis activities; help develop effective corrective and preventive actions and verify completion as assigned.
• Conduct advanced hazard identification, risk assessments, facility walkarounds, inspections, and audits to identify conditions that may affect employees, visitors, contractors, products, equipment, facilities, or regulatory compliance.
• Develop, update, and improve site-specific EHS procedures, work methods, job safety analyses, lockout/tagout procedures, risk assessments, emergency response materials, and crisis management documentation as assigned.
• Evaluate EHS performance metrics, inspection findings, incident data, audit results, and other leading and lagging indicators to identify trends, risk areas, and opportunities for improvement.
• Coach, counsel, and guide managers, supervisors, employees, and contractors on EHS requirements, safe work practices, risk controls, and corrective action follow-through.
• Support regulatory inspections, external audits, internal assessments, permit-related reviews, and compliance verification activities; assist with information gathering, response preparation, and corrective action tracking.
• Provide technical support for environmental compliance activities, including wastewater, stormwater, waste management, air compliance, spill prevention, and other applicable site requirements.
• Support execution of applicable Process Safety Management, contractor safety, machine safety, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, ergonomics, and other EHS programs based on site needs and assigned responsibilities.
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate EHS training, awareness activities, coaching sessions, drills, and employee engagement efforts using company-approved tools and site-specific content.
• Coordinate and support emergency response drills, crisis management exercises, evacuation planning, and response-readiness activities in partnership with site leadership and applicable functional teams.
• Report and escalate site security concerns or events brought to the EHS team through appropriate site leadership channels and coordinate with the Corporate Security Advisor, as needed.
• Maintain, review, and support required EHS records, logs, reports, permits, inspections, training documentation, OSHA reporting information, and other compliance-related records as assigned.
• Lead assigned EHS programs, initiatives, assessments, or improvement projects; coordinate cross-functional work activities and help remove barriers to effective execution.
• Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and work coordination support to less experienced EHS personnel where appropriate, including review of work products, coaching on technical issues, and support for development of EHS capability.
• Perform other related job duties and projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in environmental, health, safety, emergency preparedness, or a related compliance role required.
• Minimum three (3) years of manufacturing, industrial, food manufacturing, or other operational environment experience preferred.
• Advanced working knowledge of EHS regulatory and compliance requirements, risk identification and control methods, incident investigation practices, audit processes, and program management expectations preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to independently assess complex situations, determine practical courses of action, and escalate issues appropriately based on risk, compliance obligations, and business impact.
• Experience supporting or leading complex EHS programs, initiatives, investigations, assessments, audits, corrective action processes, or continuous improvement projects preferred.
• Strong analytical, investigation, problem-solving, technical writing, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills required.
• Ability to influence outcomes through technical expertise, sound judgment, professional credibility, coaching, and effective collaboration with leaders, supervisors, employees, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and contribute effectively in a team environment.
• Completion of OSHA 30 course; relevant EHS, environmental, emergency response, or professional safety certifications preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and applicable EHS data management or reporting systems, required.
