Senior Electrical Designer
Columbia, SC
Peak Technical Services is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join a growing electrical engineering team in Columbia, SC. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging projects while advancing your career in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
This position will play a major role in the design production for the firm, working with other team members, striving for a final product produced efficiently to the satisfaction of the client with minimal cost while maintaining our high-quality standards. The position requires strong teaming skills, willingness to work as required to meet project schedules, and a strong understanding of client service and product quality.
Typical Work Activities
Perform study and design work for projects including, but not limited to, existing facility evaluations, feasibility studies, design, cost estimating, and construction administration
Assist engineers, project managers, field staff, administrative staff and other team members as required
Coordination with clients and team members to collect design data, including field survey to identify site conditions
Perform electrical calculations such as circuit and load calculations, voltage drop, conduit and conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and short circuit.
Conversion and application of design data into design documents
Lighting fixture selection and schedule creation, including photometric analysis and calculations. This work includes coordination with architects, interior designers, landscape architects and other design team members as required.
Application of relevant building and electrical codes
Project design, specification and drawing preparation ready for final engineering review
Quality control – ensures compliance with office drawing standards (both for self and for other team members)
Client, utility, code official, design team and contractor interaction and coordination
Represents the firm onsite and in meetings – virtual and in-person – including accurate documentation and distribution of minutes to other team members
Perform project management functions on small to medium size projects
Assistance in construction administration – response to RFIs, review of shop drawings, incorporating design changes, site visits and similar functions
Development of details, title blocks and other drawing components, including ongoing technical and aesthetic improvements to these items
Periodic archives of all data and assistance in database updates to track data
Assisting with routine project drawing/file organization and dead-filing
Duties, Tasks, Responsibilities
Project development from concept to complete design, ready for final engineering review
Project scoping and fee preparation, ready for final engineer or project manager review
Coordination with other members of the design team, utilities and code authorities
Travel as required for project meetings, conferences and continuing education (local and out-of-state)
Excellent client service – indirect marketing, proactive, responsive and positive attitude toward clients and team members (internal and external)
Data backup and archiving
Quality control – checking plans for technical and aesthetic components in cooperation with production manager and engineering staff
Self improvement/growth – continuing education to maintain competence and improve expertise
Willing to work overtime as required to support project schedules
Assisting engineers and project managers with policing office standards, calculations and other design components of projects
Leadership and project management responsibilities on small to medium size projects, including leading multi-discipline design efforts

Salary depends on experience but generally between $60K - $75K annually to start.
