Senior Electrical Designer
Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for developing and coordinating electrical designs for various types of projects. This role involves creating detailed drawings and documentation, performing electrical calculations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality designs that meet project requirements and codes. Requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively individually and in a team environment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and control systems, in compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Review design drawings, specifications, and reports for accuracy, completeness, and quality
- Prepare detailed drawings such as single-line diagrams, panel schedules, power plans, lighting plans, and installation details
- Perform electrical calculations, including load analysis, breaker sizing, conduit and wire sizing, voltage drop, and fault current
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, mechanical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure design integration across systems
- Ensure electrical designs comply with local codes, regulations, and industry standards
- Research and specify commercially available equipment to meet project requirements for electrical systems
- Interact with clients to understand project needs and address design issues or changes
- Help manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure timely delivery
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit)
- Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, standards, and codes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with Deltek Vision and Smartsheet or similar platforms
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects while adhering to schedules and budgets
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Significant experience designing and implementing electrical systems for industrial and/or municipal facilities
- Electrical building systems design and/or knowledge of construction techniques
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with 3D modeling and BIM environments, such as Revit
- Familiarity with NFPA standards relevant to project requirements
