Senior Electrical Designer (On-site)

Work arrangement: On-site
Travel: Approximately 10% (project-driven, may include occasional national travel)
Compensation: $110,000 to $130,000+ base plus performance-based bonus

Position summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer leads electrical design for building projects from early concept through construction documents, ensuring code compliance, quality, and schedule performance. This role is highly collaborative and client-facing, partnering closely with architects, owners, and internal disciplines to deliver efficient, constructible electrical systems. You will also guide and review the work of designers and engineers while maintaining hands-on technical ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design on projects ranging from targeted renovations to large, multi-discipline new construction.
  • Develop electrical system concepts and basis-of-design approaches aligned to client goals, budget, and schedule.
  • Produce and oversee construction documents including drawings, specifications, and design narratives.
  • Design and coordinate building electrical systems including:
    • Normal and emergency power distribution
    • Lighting and lighting controls
    • Fire alarm and life safety interfaces
    • Grounding and bonding
  • Perform and/or manage power system studies such as short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
  • Conduct design reviews and QA/QC checks to ensure adherence to NEC, applicable NFPA standards, building codes, energy codes, and internal standards.
  • Coordinate directly with architects, owners, and stakeholders; lead electrical portions of meetings and document decisions and actions.
  • Manage design schedules, deliverables, and workload planning for assigned projects.
  • Mentor and review work produced by electrical designers and engineers; provide technical guidance and clear feedback.
  • Support construction administration as needed, including RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and punch activities.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in building electrical design within an AEC/MEP consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, grounding and bonding, and power system studies (coordination and arc flash).
  • Extensive working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and strong familiarity with relevant NFPA standards, building codes, and energy codes.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills and comfort leading coordination with architects and owners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and maintain schedule and quality discipline.
  • Proficiency with standard office tools (Microsoft Office).
  • US Citizen requirement.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience delivering projects in healthcare, aviation, military, and public-sector/municipal facilities.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring designers/EITs and leading project electrical delivery.
  • Familiarity with common AEC electrical tools and workflows (Revit/AutoCAD and power study platforms such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower).
