Position Title: Sr. Electrical Engineer / Analyst (Power & Transmission)

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer located in Coeur d'Alene, ID (Hybrid Preferred, Remote Eligible).

Job Description:

  • This role supports an essential Energy & Transmission Program focused on electric power transmission, delivery, and grid modernization.
  • This position focuses directly on transmission planning, capacity modeling, grid reliability, and strategic technical advisory.
  • This is a collaborative role for a senior professional who thrives in power systems engineering and excels at guiding complex energy projects.
  • Working closely with client teams, regional stakeholders, and non-technical executives, you will bridge the gap between technical power flow analyses and strategic business decisions while maintaining critical grid compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Transmission & Capacity Planning: Conduct load flow, stability, short-circuit, and voltage analyses to evaluate long-term transmission expansion; develop load forecasting models to integrate renewable energy, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and high-demand loads such as data centers.
  • Compliance & Interconnection: Navigate ISO/RTO interconnection processes while maintaining strict NERC and FERC compliance. Perform contingency analyses ($N-1$, $N-1-1$) and engineer practical mitigation solutions such as reconductoring and Remedial Action Schemes (RAS).
  • Technical Leadership: Prepare clear technical reports and represent the organization in regional planning, strategy roles, and industry forums.
  • Strategic Advisory: Translate complex load flow results, thermal limits, and stability analyses into actionable business risks, timeline impacts, and financial options for investors and executive leadership.
  • Cross-Functional & Client Collaboration: Partner with diverse, multi-disciplinary client teams in a primarily remote environment to ensure project objectives and client criteria are met.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of power systems engineering experience with a proven track record at a major utility, ISO/RTO, or specialized power delivery consultancy.
  • Software & Scripting: Proficiency with power simulation tools (e.g., PowerWorld Simulator, ETAP, PLS-CADD) and scripting languages (Python, MATLAB) for automating large-scale analysis.
  • Documentation: Ability to read and interpret construction documents, technical specifications, and RFPs.
  • Licensing: Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in electric utility capacity planning and operations.
  • Advanced Modeling: Hands-on experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS) and advanced GIS integrations.

Job Details:

  • Job Type: Direct Hire
  • Location: Coeur d'Alene, ID (Hybrid Preferred / Remote Eligible for well-qualified candidates)
  • Salary Range: $150K-$195K
