Location: Onsite - Dalton, Georgia (Near Chattanooga, TN)
Department: Capital Projects & Technical Services
Role Snapshot
Looking to combine meaningful engineering work with an incredible place to live? This role offers the opportunity to support combined cycle generation at one of OPC's sites in Northwest Georgia-just outside Chattanooga-where scenic mountain views, outdoor recreation, and a strong local community meet cutting-edge power generation.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll play a key role onsite, partnering directly with plant teams to support operations, maintenance, and projects that keep our facilities running safely and reliably. This is an ideal role for engineers who enjoy being hands-on, close to the equipment, and embedded in plant operations rather than behind a desk.
What You'll Do
- Partner closely with plant operations and maintenance teams to support day-to-day electrical system performance onsite.
- Lead and support electrical maintenance activities, including major outages and inspections.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues to improve plant reliability and efficiency.
- Support and execute predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
- Assist with the design, installation, and commissioning of electrical equipment and system upgrades.
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support capital projects and plant modifications from planning through execution.
- Assist with NERC compliance activities and required documentation.
What You Bring
- A passion for being onsite and engaged directly with plant operations and equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a hands-on approach to solving complex electrical challenges.
- Experience working in a power generation environment, ideally combined cycle.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work cross-functionally with plant teams.
- Appreciation for a lifestyle that balances rewarding work with access to outdoor recreation, mountains, and a lower cost of living.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Electrical preferred).
- 5–8+ years of experience in power generation or a similar industrial environment.
- Experience supporting maintenance, outages, or capital projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of power plant electrical systems (generators, transformers, switchgear, etc.).
- Familiarity with predictive and preventive maintenance practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot, analyze data, and drive performance improvements.
- Understanding of NERC reliability standards is a plus.
- Proficiency with standard engineering and computer applications.
Why This Role
- Live where others vacation – minutes from hiking, water access, and mountain views
- Close-knit plant environment with high visibility and impact
- Opportunity to stay technical and hands-on while contributing to major generation assets
- Strong work-life balance compared to metro-based engineering roles
