Role Summary
We're seeking a senior electrical engineer to join our core engineering team and help us build
lifesaving medical devices. You'll work daily with mechanical, acoustic, firmware, algorithm, and
quality engineers, as well as our contract manufacturers and component vendors. You'll design
the electronics that capture heart sounds, lung sounds, and ECG signals, power our devices, and
send data wirelessly to our apps. The role covers both our shipping products and our next
generation of hardware. On shipping products, you'll lead root cause analysis of field failures,
qualify second-source components, and work with our contract manufacturers to improve yield.
On new products, you'll help define the hardware architecture and take designs from schematic
through production. We encourage engineers to work outside their core discipline, and you're
welcome to contribute to sensor, algorithm, and firmware development where you have the
skills. This is a hands-on role with significant time spent in the lab.
Essential Functions
Design, develop, and test electronics for digital stethoscopes and related products with
a cross-functional engineering team
Help define the architecture of next-generation hardware
Design schematics and PCB layouts for mixed-signal, battery-powered boards
Become an expert on capturing biological signals such as PCG and ECG
Bring up new hardware, run verification testing, and contribute to DFMEA
Lead root cause analysis of field failures and implement design fixes
Find and qualify second-source and replacement components
Develop manufacturing tests with contract manufacturers and improve production yield
Work with electronics vendors on manufacturability, cost, and build specifications
Lead safety, EMC, and wireless testing with outside labs (IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2,
FCC)
Contribute to sensor, algorithm, and firmware development where you have the skills
Navigate medical device regulatory requirements and contribute to design control
documentation
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
5+ years of electrical engineering experience
Track record of taking electronic products from concept through production, with hands-
on design of both analog and digital circuits
Experience designing low-noise analog circuits such as sensor front ends, amplifiers,
filters, and ADC interfaces
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for mixed-signal boards, including
grounding, power integrity, and EMC/ESD design practices
Experience with battery-powered designs, including power management, charging, and
low-power operation
Experience supporting products in production, including root cause analysis, component
substitution, and working with contract manufacturers
Ability to do the analysis behind a design, such as worst-case, tolerance, noise, and
power budget calculations
Comfortable in the lab with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, and
similar test equipment
Clear written and verbal communication, including design reviews, test reports, and
specifications that others can build from
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work across
engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in medical device development (FDA regulated environments, IEC 62304,
design controls)
Background in consumer electronics or consumer medical devices
Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) implementation on embedded platforms
Experience with audio signal processing or acoustic measurement systems
Experience designing acquisition circuits for biological signals such as ECG, PCG, or
EMG
Familiarity with wireless certification processes (FCC, CE, Bluetooth SIG)
Understanding of hardware component sourcing, bill of materials (BOM) optimization,
and design for manufacturing (DFM)
Experience with Altium Designer
Experience with Python or other scripting languages for test automation and tooling
Previous work in startup environments
Contributions to open-source embedded projects
