Senior Electrical Engineer, R&D

Position Senior Electrical Engineer – Handheld Medical Devices (Cincinnati, Ohio, United States). The role supports the handheld medical devices business, acting as an electrical/electro‑mechanical expert within Ethicon's Capital Systems and handheld device manufacturing, supporting product enhancement, regulatory compliance, quality improvements, process simplification, and cost improvements.Responsibilities Implement and coordinate engineering changes for electrical hardware and software aspects of capital systems and handheld devices.Lead field root‑cause investigations and resolution, including gap analysis, production troubleshooting, and validation.Develop strong partnerships with multi‑functional leaders and suppliers to drive alignment, prioritize, and complete combined projects.Ensure projects are compliant with regulatory requirements (GMP, ISO, MDR) and Ethicon policy and procedures.Ensure safety and critical performance of commercial products per applicable electrical safety standards of medical devices.Qualifications and Requirements College degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).Minimum 5+ years of R & D electrical engineering experience.Experience translating high‑level customer needs into technical requirements, trade‑offs, and business impacts.Experience with embedded electrical design.Strong electrical analysis skills, understanding of electrical systems and subsystems within overall system design.Knowledge of root‑cause analysis, verification/validation testing, and creating test protocols.Demonstrated ability to debug and test electrical systems using test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, spectrum analyzers).Results‑driven, able to work across organizational boundaries, with proven oral and written communication skills.Experience leading projects and managing risks.Experience within a medical device or highly regulated industry.Experience with IEC 60601 standards (preferred).Experience designing prototypes, simulation, and rapid testing (preferred).Experience solving technical manufacturing issues (preferred).Programming language experience (LabVIEW, C, C++, Python, etc.) (preferred).Agile methodology experience (preferred).Up to 20% travel.Preferred Skills Analytical ReasoningAuto‑CAD DesignBusiness Case ModelingCoachingDesign ThinkingMechanical EngineeringProblem SolvingProcess OrientedProduct ReliabilityProject Management Methodology (PMM)Project SupportQuality Control TestingResearch and DevelopmentResource AllocationSAP Product Lifecycle ManagementTechnical CredibilityTechnologically SavvyLocation Cincinnati, OH, United States – flexible hybrid schedule, 3 days per week on site.Base Pay Range $92,000 – $148,350 per year.Benefits Vacation – 120 hours per calendar yearSick time – 40 hours per year (48 hours if living in Colorado, 56 hours if in Washington)Holiday pay – 13 days per year (includes floating holidays)Work, personal and family time – up to 40 hours per yearParental leave – 480 hours within one year of birth/adoption/foster careBereavement leave – 240 hours (40 hours for extended family each year)Caregiver leave – 80 hours in a 52‑week rolling periodVolunteer leave – 32 hours per yearMilitary spouse time‑off – 80 hours per yearConsolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)) per company plan termsEqual Opportunity Employment Johnson & Johnson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
