Amazon Leo is Amazon"s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Our goal is to be Earth"s most customer centric company, and we are just getting started. We need people who want to join an ambitious program that continues to push the state of the art in space-based systems design.

We are looking for the next member of our avionics development team who are building critical components for Amazon Leo satellites. We are looking for an exceptional engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to deliver hardware.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of satellite avionics subsystems, from architecture and requirements through production ramp, in partnership with peer engineers.
  • Lead system and subsystem architecture, translating mission requirements into manufacturable hardware designs.
  • Drive circuit design, analysis, and ECAD schematic capture to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Lead hardware design reviews (architecture, schematic, PCB layout) and set the technical bar for design quality.
  • Develop and execute bring-up, verification, and qualification test strategies.
  • Lead debugging and root cause resolution across development, qualification, and production, working closely with design and test engineers.
  • Establish requirements, traceability, and verification frameworks for hardware subsystems.
  • Lead production readiness and ramp, including test strategy, yield improvement, and issue resolution.
  • Influence cross-functional teams (systems, firmware, manufacturing, test, suppliers) to deliver program milestones.
  • Act as a technical leader, raising engineering standards and developing other engineers.

A day in the life

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of the avionics hardware development team, designing and testing systems supporting satellite sensing and control (power delivery, propulsion, attitude control, and more). You will lead work across the full lifecycle, from component selection and schematic design through layout review, bring-up, validation, and system integration.

You will help define requirements, drive high-quality hardware designs, and ensure robust execution from development into production. Working closely with peer engineers, you will lead critical technical efforts while partnering across systems, firmware, manufacturing, and integration teams to solve complex problems.

You'll operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, tackling challenges that have not been solved at scale and contributing to the development of engineering standards across the organization. Along the way, we guarantee that you will learn a lot, have fun, and make a positive impact on tens of millions of people!

About the team

Our team is responsible for delivering production hardware subsystems for attitude control, power delivery, and propulsion control subsystems on the satellite bus. We take ownership and work hard to deliver the highest quality solutions to support the long-term success of Amazon Leo. This team consists of a broad set of technical backgrounds, and we look forward to welcoming people that are excited to help us deliver broadband internet to underserved communities!

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
