OverviewWe are designing the grid of the future!EPE is a leading energy engineering consultancy delivering high-impact solutions across conventional thermal, renewable, storage, and hybrid power systems. As a Senior Electrical Engineer – Thermal Power Generation, you will serve as a primary technical resource for the electrical design and integration of conventional thermal generation assets — including gas turbines, reciprocating (RICE) engine-generator sets, and their balance of plant (BOP) — working alongside experienced technical leaders on technically complex, high-visibility projects spanning the full lifecycle from feasibility and design through commissioning and operations support. As a licensed Professional Engineer, you will independently deliver and stamp high-quality consulting deliverables across simple-cycle, combined-cycle, cogeneration (CHP), and reciprocating engine plants, provide technical guidance to project team members, and actively contribute to EPE's internal knowledge base and best practices.EPE supports a flexible work environment. This role is open to remote candidates based in the United States or Canada, with travel required for client engagements, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities.ResponsibilitiesHow you can make an impact:Independently develop and stamp AC Single Line Diagrams (SLD), HV/MV power distribution designs, and facility grounding schemes for thermal generation facilitiesSelect and specify electrical equipment — including transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and instrumentation — to meet project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standardsLead installation oversight, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and troubleshooting for gas turbine and reciprocating engine plantsServe as a licensed technical resource for project teams, providing PE-level design guidance and peer review on electrical deliverablesEnsure all electrical design deliverables comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and other applicable regulatory and industry requirements; sign and seal documents as required by applicable jurisdictionCollaborate with mechanical, controls, civil, and structural engineers to ensure full integration of electrical systems with plant BOP and auxiliary systemsActively contribute to the development and maintenance of EPE's internal technical standards, design templates, and best practices for thermal generation projectsSupport business development activities including proposal development, scope definition, and client technical presentationsOwn personal project delivery against defined scope, schedule, and budget objectives, proactively identifying and escalating risksQualificationsBring your passion, here's what's needed:B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus, or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated electrical power systems design experienceActive Professional Engineering (PE) license Required7+ years of electrical design experience for gas turbine, cogeneration, or reciprocating engine power plants7+ years of experience with HV/MV electrical systems in power generation or industrial facilitiesDemonstrated ability to independently develop and stamp SLDs, HV/MV distribution designs, grounding schemes, and electrical equipment specificationsStrong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE 80, IEEE C37, and related standards applicable to power generation facilitiesPreferredPE licensure in multiple states or willingness to obtain reciprocal licensure as project needs requireExperience with major thermal generation OEMs, including gas turbine manufacturers (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Solar Turbines) and reciprocating engine manufacturers (Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, MAN)Hands‑on experience leading FAT/SAT and commissioning activities for turbine or engine‑generator plantsWorking knowledge of mechanical and controls systems for gas turbines and RICE gensetsProficiency with electrical design and analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or AutoCAD ElectricalExperience across simple-cycle, combined-cycle, CHP, and reciprocating engine plant configurationsPrior consulting or owner's engineer experienceHow we support you:Comprehensive health and wellness benefits including medical, dental, and vision with 100% premium coverage for youGenerous PTO and paid holidaysMyShare Employee Ownership ProgramWork with industry leaders401K, up to a 4% match (100% vested from day 1)Location : This position is remote US or CanadaTravel : Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)EPE is an equal opportunity/AA/Disability/Veteran employer.
