The Field Engineer will provide technical engineering support to Hatch's on‑site construction management and supervision team to ensure that construction work complies with the engineering design, including specifications, codes and standards.The Field Engineer's responsibilities also include assessing potential field problems and developing solutions as well as assisting with supervision of works contractors and Hatch field employees.ResponsibilitiesAssist with technical bid analysis and recommendations as requiredVerify site data and conditionsCoordinate local permitting technical requirementsManage and resolve cross‑discipline clashes or conflicts when discovered in engineering deliverables (drawings and specifications)Assist with the Field Engineering section of the Construction Execution PlanAs applicable, assist with constructability input and on‑site monitoring of design, work scope, construction sequence, impacts to estimating and schedulingReview contractor CWP submittals including ITPs and Method StatementsProvide technical assistance to QA/QCReview and approve QA test reports and documentation where requiredProvide technical assistance to Construction SupervisionReview and verification of contractor's monthly progress reportsManage field information requests and site design change procedures (RFI, FCR, FCN, ECN, SI)Develop, check, and distribute specifications for onsite purchases where required, such as temporary works or site generated purchasesReview and monitor contractor pricing and assist the Contracts Administrator in the review and settlement of change orders and claimsReview contractor supplied deliverables including as‑built documentationCoordinate third‑party inspections in conjunction with consultants and other authoritiesGenerate and/or check field sketches or red‑line engineering deliverablesManage, control and maintain onsite drawings, files and registersReview contract documents for the particular area of responsibility and identify conflicts and recommend solutionsVerify that construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instructions as well as applicable regulatory requirementsPerform technical review at substantial and final completionsProject Development SupportDevelop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedulePrepare a list of engineering deliverables and time‑based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budgetMaintain the project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during the design evolutionReview and execute the electrical and layout design criteria documentsReview electrical technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.)Assist in the preparation and development of project specific proceduresDefine the system requirements to achieve the project results and monitor effectivenessRepresent the electrical practice in project engineering coordination meetingsEnsure coordination, between the electrical team and other disciplines, of all activities being performed as the design evolvesEnsure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with project procedures and the quality assurance planPromote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of electrical engineering workEnsure that all work designed, manufactured and supplied in the electrical engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)Participation in the compilation of the client Project Safety Management Plan with specific reference to switching, isolation and lockout proceduresQualifications and ExperienceBachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited universityMust be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience within an EPCM, heavy industrial, power generation, and/or transmission & distribution or water/wastewater industry preferredUnderstands the design and field execution processes of large scale EPCM projectsStrong knowledge of construction means and methods including labor, material, equipment, cost and schedule requirementsStrong deliverable focus and ability to plan the workHigh degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the disciplineStrong understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologiesKnowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards (NEC, NFPA and IEEE standards)Knowledge of electrical calculations (short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, arc flash and harmonics)Knowledge of specification of large motor/generator sets and associated equipment, including high‑voltage switchgear, transformers, starters and related protection systemsKnowledge of electrical design tools / software such as ETAP, SKM, or Easy Power.
