Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical & FPGA Systems Engineer to support the design, development, integration, verification, and testing of advanced electronic systems for defense and missile applications. This role combines expertise in digital hardware design, FPGA development, embedded systems, and test system engineering to support products throughout the entire lifecycle-from concept development through production deployment.

The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and contribute to cutting-edge technologies involving digital signal processing, embedded processing, high-speed interfaces, FPGA architectures, and automated test solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, analyze, and integrate complex digital electronic hardware, circuit card assemblies (CCAs), and FPGA-based systems.
  • Translate system-level requirements into hardware and FPGA architectures, specifications, and detailed designs.
  • Perform requirements analysis, trade studies, parts selection, and system architecture development.
  • Develop FPGA solutions using VHDL, including coding, simulation, verification, synthesis, place-and-route, and hardware integration.
  • Design and support hardware incorporating processors, FPGAs, memory devices, and communication interfaces.
  • Create and maintain schematics, electrical drawings, interface definitions, and design documentation.
  • Support PCB design activities, layout reviews, signal integrity analysis, and production readiness assessments.
  • Design, develop, and integrate engineering and production test systems, test fixtures, interface assemblies, and instrumentation solutions.
  • Conduct laboratory testing, hardware checkout, troubleshooting, debugging, integration, and validation activities.
  • Verify designs using directed and constrained-random methodologies while tracking coverage and requirements compliance.
  • Support technical reviews, configuration management, risk identification, and schedule execution.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, FPGA designers, manufacturing teams, and program leadership throughout the development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, digital hardware design, FPGA development, or test system engineering.
  • Experience designing digital electronics with processors, FPGAs, memory, and high-speed communication interfaces.
  • Experience developing FPGA solutions using VHDL.
  • Experience with FPGA development and verification tools.
  • Experience with PCB design processes, schematic capture, hardware integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with factory and laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, network analyzers, and related instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, electrical drawings, and interface documentation.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols including Ethernet, PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART, TCP/IP, UDP, CAN, and RS-422.
  • Experience taking products from concept and requirements through integration, verification, and production.
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance and ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with missile systems, defense electronics, guidance systems, signal processing, radar, RF, or electro-optical systems.
  • FPGA experience with Xilinx, AMD, Microsemi, Altera/Intel, Zynq UltraScale, or similar devices.
  • Experience with UVM, SystemVerilog, constrained-random verification, and FPGA emulation platforms.
  • Experience with embedded processors such as ARM, MicroBlaze, or Nios.
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics / Siemens EDA tools including DxDesigner, xDX Designer, HyperLynx, Xpedition, and QuestaSim.
  • Experience with Creo Schematic, Mentor Capital, Altium Designer, Vivado, and related design tools.
  • Knowledge of software development languages such as C, C++, or C#.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, SCPI-based instrument control, and automated test development.
  • Experience leading products from development into production.
  • Experience managing technical risks, schedules, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Tools & Technologies
  • FPGA Development: Xilinx Vivado, QuestaSim, VHDL
  • Hardware Design: DxDesigner, xDX Designer, HyperLynx, Xpedition, Altium, Creo Schematic, Mentor Capital
  • Operating Systems: Linux
  • Test & Integration: Oscilloscopes, Network Analyzers, Power Supplies, Digital Multimeters
  • Protocols: PCIe, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, TCP/IP, UDP, CAN, RS-422
Success in This Role
  • Independently execute complex hardware, FPGA, and test system development activities with minimal supervision.
  • Deliver high-quality designs that meet technical, cost, schedule, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Effectively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to drive successful product development and deployment.
  • Support programs from concept through production while maintaining compliance with established engineering processes.
