The Role:

AutoStore is hiring a Senior Electronics Engineer who has carried new products to market. We are looking for an Engineer with experience taking a product from 0 - 1, someone who has felt the consequences of their own design decisions at 10,000 units, not 10. The successful engineer will have owned PCBAs through the messy parts: EMC chamber failures two weeks before certification, yield drops at the EMS partner, and the design trade-offs required to recover without compromising long-term reliability.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

PCBA Ownership - Concept Through to Serial Production Ready

• Set hardware architecture, component strategy, and BOM cost/risk profile for assigned boards.
• Schematic design and layout; own signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal outcomes.
• Lead bring-up and root-cause analysis.
• Own EMC and safety compliance, from design-for-EMC through pre-compliance and formal certification.
• Lead DFM/DFT/DFx with EMS partners; define production test strategy and coverage.
• Own NPI, pilot builds, and 0-series.
• Partner with firmware on control discussions, implementation and fault handling.
• Design robust technology with the noise immunity a moving robotic platform demands.

System and Organizational Contribution

• Contribute to electronics design standards, reusable building blocks, and design review practice in functional excellence groups.
• Assess how your designs could impact the wider AutoStore portfolio through a platform approach, and flag cross-product benefits and drawbacks.
• Working within a cross-functional NPD team and foster multidiscipline collaboration between functional disciplines.
• Mentor to mid-level and junior engineers; you review their designs and help raise the bar of the team, not just your own output.

Key Qualifications:

• Master's in Electronics or equivalent.
• 7+ years in electronics engineering spanning analog, digital, and power electronics.
• How owned design for high-volume manufacturing with global EMS suppliers.
• Dealt with sensor interface design and embedded communication bus design in electrically noisy, electromechanical environments.
• Experienced with CAN, SPE/Ethernet, I2C, RS-485, etc.
• Architected and designed advanced motor driver PCBAs and power electronics.
• Experience designing embedded electronics and systems ranging from resource constrained microcontroller platforms to Linux based embedded systems.
• Dealt with safety and compliance issues around fault detection, safe state designs and diagnostics.
• Deep and practical EMC competence - design-for-EMC, not just test attendance.
• DFM & DFT for high-volume electromechanical products.
• Battery-powered systems and system power budgeting.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: setting direction for others, reviewing designs, and mentoring.
