Job Overview A Battery Management System (BMS) Engineer designs, develops, and validates electronic systems that monitor, control, and protect battery packs in electric vehicles (EVs) or energy storage systems. They are responsible for implementing algorithms for state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) estimation, ensuring thermal safety, and ensuring compliance with standards like ISO 26262. Key skills include embedded C/C++ programming, CAN/LIN communication, and hardware design.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • System Design & Development: Design BMS hardware including sensor interfaces, protection circuits, and communication protocols (CAN/LIN).
  • Algorithm Development: Develop algorithms to estimate state-of-charge (SOC), state-of-health (SOH), and manage cell balancing.
  • Testing & Validation: Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, software validation, and system integration testing.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure battery packs meet safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262), including overcharge and over-temperature protection.
  • Collaboration: Work with mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineers to optimize pack performance.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or similar fields.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, MATLAB/Simulink for simulation, PCB design, and object-oriented programming (OOP).
  • Experience: 4-8 years of experience in BMS development or related automotive power electronics fields.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Lithium-ion cell behavior, power electronics, and data analysis.
  • Additional Experience:
  • Experience with thermal system design.
  • Experience in design, development, testing, and integration of battery and battery management systems into mobile applications.
  • Experience with rectifiers, inverters, power control systems, and chargers.

Additional Information

Hiring Range At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $110,000 - $135,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors including experience and location.
