    Description

    Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

The Online Security Technologies team is looking for a senior people leader to lead Schwab's authentication platform, a critical capability that supports secure, reliable, and easy-to-use client login experiences. In this role, you will guide a distributed engineering team responsible for building and operating highly available, scalable, and secure technology solutions that directly impact how clients access Schwab's digital ecosystem. You will balance technical leadership, people development, delivery execution, and partner engagement while helping the team move high-priority security initiatives forward with clarity and urgency.

This is an opportunity to lead through complex technology decisions, drive modern engineering practices, and strengthen how the team uses automation, metrics, and AI-enabled development practices to improve quality, speed, and operational resilience. You will partner across technology, business, and development teams to align priorities, manage risk, remove barriers, and support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Success in this role will require strong judgment, adaptability, and the ability to coach teams through ambiguity while staying focused on secure client outcomes, platform reliability, and long-term team growth.

    What you have

    Required qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
    • 4+ years of software development management experience, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and developing engineering talent
    • 1+ years of experience focused on security technologies
    • 10+ years of hands-on software development experience with distributed platforms
    • Experience leading technical teams in the delivery of highly scalable, reliable applications aligned to business priorities, budgets, timelines, and technology strategy
    • Experience with Java and/or C# in Linux and/or Windows data center environments
    • Deep knowledge of authentication protocols, REST, APIs, and Web Services
    • Experience building complex, highly scalable, low-latency applications
    • Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a mission-critical service
    • Experience identifying technical and resource risks early and establishing mitigation plans
    • Experience with Agile development practices and Test-Driven Development
    • Experience using AI or automation to support software development practices, testing, code review, or engineering productivity

    Preferred qualifications

    • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Aerospike
    • Experience with cloud technologies such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry or GCP
    • Experience driving AI adoption across the software development lifecycle, including AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, prompt engineering, specification-driven development, AI testing automation, or AI code review automation
    • Ability to use telemetry, metrics, and operational insights to improve platform reliability, quality, and time-to-market
    • Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to step into complex engineering challenges and guide teams toward practical, scalable solutions
    • Ability to build relationships with key partners and increase visibility into team outcomes, accomplishments, and strategic value
    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and grow high-performing engineering teams across multiple locations
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage expectations and influence across technical and business partners
